Crone Cronies - A mother's love is unconditional. But don't push it! May 8

The Cronies is a place for women who are mature in age or attitude. The group is highly diverse in that we have ages ranging from 30s to 60s, some are moms, some are single, some are teachers/professors, and some have jobs and work outside the home and some don’t. We do our own thing and are happy when life doesn’t get in the way too often. Some are training for a marathon, some don’t even do vids, you get the picture.

Life and exercise are what we report. A thread is started every Sunday. Some report every day, others whenever they can.

Bottom line: we are a diverse group and very supportive of each other’s goals. Oh, and we’re funny as heck. If you’d like to join us, just come on down.

Good morning! Happy Mother's Day!

It's a rainy day today - Gus and I went out in the back yard at 6:30 before the rains started, but now it'll be raining the rest of the day. I'll still be walking Gus in the rain. I did vacuum everything upstairs and cleaned the finch cage, but not the intense clean that taking the cage outside would involve. Also cleaned the floor by the finch cage - I have a Schefflera plant there that weeps sap onto the floor and bird seed hulls stick to it - got that all cleaned up now that the Schefflera will be outside for the summer. Last night was a late one picking up Adelija and a friend from a park and driving them home - I did take Adelija to see a piece of land that they will be building a senior coop on that I'm considering. The construction is predicted to take about 14 months which would bring me up to the 62 age minimum. I'll be attending an informational meeting about the place later this month. This might be the place!

Laura, on your butterscotch brownies! I've been to Seattle and loved the area, but not up to Vancouver - sounds like that would be lovely also! Oh, this was the last title in your list - I'll need more starting 5/15!

Paula, I still have some "To Do's" that I haven't gotten to - need to stop by hardware store for long strong nails for the swing frame and stop by a garden center to pick up annuals. Sometime this coming week... Glad you got out with friends - I don't see my friends as often because of Gus's walking limits . This coming week should bring some answers after the vet specialist sees Gus.

Waves to all!

Anita

It was a nice day. We finished getting ready this morning and then I went to pick up food from the Chinese place we all like. Mom and Dad came over and we had lunch and then the butterscotch brownies (that were good) and Mom opened her presents. We gave her a new phone. Her old iPhone is the next generation that Apple will stop supporting and we figured she'd like a newer model that is bigger and better. So, she didn't get the newest model, but it's the third generation back. Anyway, she loved it and it took care of Mother's Day and her birthday, which is in 15 days. She rarely wants anything at all, so it was nice to find something she loved receiving.

Celebration #1 down. My birthday is next weekend. And we'll celebrate Mom's birthday the next weekend. Memorial Day is probably the next weekend. There's a reason we call this "the second holiday season".

Paula - Yeah, my friend's wife is Canadian. She grew up in Saskatchewan and since then her parents moved to Vancouver, so they'll be near them. That should make things much easier. It sounds like you had a really nice day - friends and a walk in a beautiful area.

Anita - It's nice you have a senior co-op on the horizon that could be good timing. I look forward to hearing about the info meeting. I have a source for new themes.

Good evening. I don't think any of us are mothers, but happy Mothers Day anyway.

Workout this morning was Pahla B Body Shaping Day 13 Cardio/Tone and a neighborhood walk with DH.

Grocery day for us. So food prep this afternoon. Both our Moms are gone and the Moms in my family live on the east coast, so other than remembering our Moms and seneding some texts, we didn't do anything differently for Mothers Day.

Anita, walking Gus in the rain - you are devoted. My dogs never wanted to walk in the rain, they were true California dogs, they were too prissy to walk in the rain. I had to look up what a shefflera tree was and they are beautiful. I don't think I've ever seen one as a houseplant here but then I'm not the gardener my MIL was. I know you've been researching senior living for the future, sounds like this place is promising. You really are knocking out that To Do list - good for you.

Laura, your family's Mothers Day celebration sounds so pleasant. I think an iphone is a lovely gift, I'm glad you Mom thought so too. I see why you call May the second holiday season. I definately think if your friends wife is a Canadian citizen he's going to have a much easier time getting an extended Visa. Are butterscotch brownies the same as blondies? I love blondies.

Good morning!

It'll be a hot, windy, rainy day here today. I'll still walk Gus this morning. Otherwise planning on getting another Covid booster shot, getting groceries, and maybe hitting a garden center or hardware store. Spades tonight if that works out for people - I can take it or leave it this week.

Laura, yum on butterscotch brownies! I'm liking my iPhone (version 12), but still haven't gotten rid of my iPod although that has to spend all its time plugged in these days (I use it next to my bed as an alarm clock and browsing tool). It might be my only phone when I move in a few years. You do get to party this month! Thanks for the thread titles!

Paula, Luckily it was a light rain yesterday and nothing so far today. Gus doesn't mind too much - loves his walk more than rain. I'll be going to an info session on the senior coop Wednesday - hopefully it still sounds good! I'm also having an architect friend that does senior housing check out the builders working on this project for her opinion. It's hard on the timing (they are predicting 14 months after ground breaking), so I'll be close to turning 62 then. I can't take Gus with me (too big for proposed rules), so will stay with him here till he passes - not sure how long that will take - oldest Aussie I've had was 12 - he's 10 now.

Waves to all!

Today went by really quickly. I went to the YMCA with Dad and then back to their house and helped Mom get her new iPhone set up. She seemed excited by getting it done. She's going to sort through and get rid of a lot of her pictures (where she held the button too long and got a lot of the same picture) and apps she doesn't use. After lunch, I took a shower and then took DH to a medical appointment. This evening, I need to catch up on the computer, get some note cards written, and sort through some stuff I haven't gotten done.

This morning, DH decided to not let Polly out for a while because it started out colder than it has been in a while. She wasn't happy, so enter Ms. Crankypants. Once we did let her out, she seemed to enjoy her day outside. It was beautiful and I think we all enjoyed it. Now, she's inside and taking a nap.

Besides what I listed yesterday, we have friends or other family with birthdays on April 28 (friend from college who was my maid of honor at our wedding has her birthday on the day we married), May 1, May 5, May 13, May 14 (I share a birthday with a niece), May 16, May 18, May 20, May 21, and May 31. That doesn't count graduations (2-3 this year).

Paula - The butterscotch brownies are like blondies with added butterscotch chips. I forget. Do blondies have the chips? I get a Mother's Day card from one of our nieces every year. It warms my heart.

Anita - It sounds like there are lot of variables in when and where you might move. We got my Mom an iPhone 11, what DH has. I have a 10XR and love it, so I don't mind having the oldest phone. I got a tablet and never used it; it's just a phone for me. I use DH's iPad when we're traveling. My computer is a 14-inch laptop and I figure between that and the phone, I'm good.

Good evening. Workout this morning was some Yin Yoga with Travis Eliot and a neighborhood walk with DH.

DH went flying with a friend and I stayed home and putzed - got some cleaning done and did some sewing.

Anita, I hope this senior place is what you're looking for. I guess you're planning to move into senior living at 62? I planning on doing that at some point but we're healthy enough at this point to stay where we are. Good idea to have someone with building knowledge look into how these units are made before you consider them. My oldest dog lived to 15 she was a brittany mix. Our other dog lived to 13, she was assorted spaniels, maybe had some Border Collie - she had the body shape and frame of a border collie and the coloring of a golden cocker. Luckily your dog is willing to walk in the rain.

Laura, you do have alot going on in May! Blondies are alot like choc chip cookies except they are made with brown sugar and are bar cookies - they only have chocolate chips in them. I haven't had an iphone in many years. I got disgusted with Apple at one point and have been getting Android phones ever since. We both have ipads though.

Good morning!

Last night Adelija had a friend overnight and hope they get back to school normally. So far quiet down there. I'll be walking Gus. Planning on planting a bed of grasses and flowers that I bought yesterday. Haircut this afternoon! Yay! I probably will stop by Trader Joe's also.

Laura, I like my iPhone in that it talks to my computers - my previous phone was of a different manufacturer and I didn't like it's primitiveness or quality. Yeah, I've got a lot of the multiple pictures also from a heavy finger .

Paula, it's hard finding a place to live in the future - places that are already built need to have a person move out or die to get in there and have your name on their replacement list for a long time. Very difficult on the timing. New places are hard also as you don't see what you could be living in and the timing is unpredictable. Seems like all the new places are being built way out of the living area that I like - I like the closeness of this coop. It's near a lot of nice bike paths and parks, but a distance for grocery stores, but they are about the same distance I drive to get to mine now. I had to reschedule the informational meeting to May 25th - meeting this Wednesday was full. I like having the options on finishes and paint colors in my unit also instead of dealing with the previous owner's tastes.

Waves to all!

I had an in-person training session this morning and then ran a couple of errands on the way home. This afternoon, I had an interview for a job producing webinars. I don't think I'm what they are looking for and that would be okay. I also decided that since it's my birthday week, I'm going to do some gel press printing, one of my favorite crafting activities. I'm almost out of birthday cards and they'll give me the backgrounds I want to quickly make some.

Paula - It's nice that DH can go flying and you can sew. You both have fun. These butterscotch brownies are made with brown sugar like blondies, but they have butterscotch chips in them instead of the chocolate chips. So they are similar, but not quite the same.

Anita - I can see how the timing could be tough. DH and I have discussed that after my parents are gone that we will probably want to find an assisted living place. With his health issues, he thinks we may need some more support for him than I might be able to give. We'll see. We're also not married to living in Raleigh long-term, so we also might want to move somewhere else. That's as far as we've gotten in any planning. (Not far at all... )
