Cyana, thank you for the YouTube garden links--so pretty!
I'm also looking for a holy grail veggie burger recipe. If you ever find one, let me know! Not too long ago, I found 2 different packages of veggie burger mixes that are easy and my DH enjoys. You just add hot water, mix it up, let it stand for 5 to 8 minutes and then form into patties and cook on a non-stick pan for 6 to 8 minutes each side. My DH likes the B.B. & Ohh! and also the Veggie Six because they don't have oil in them. The Vege Caliente has canola oil so he doesn't want that one. I buy it from Amazon:

Thanks for the heads up on that product, Paine. Like your DH, I also avoid canola.

cyana, my friend just hired a composting system. She gets a huge bucket (5-gallon?) that she stores in her garage; she says it is perfectly air tight. It gets picked up every week and she gets a new one.

Met my old boss for lunch today. It was nice but weird! I think we'll keep in touch but don't think it will develop into a personal friendship.

Hi!

Today's Workout: The lower body portion of Margaret Richard's Getting Better, plus my own warmup and stretches.

Cyana: Feel free to rant away! I myself have been vegetarian since I was 18 as it felt the most natural way for me to eat, but I definitely understand it isn't for everyone. A friend of mine told me she tried going vegetarian for a while but stopped because she felt cold all the time -- that's not right! Re composting, in California a law just went into effect for the separate handling of green waste. We've been issued an additional separate can. I now keep kitchen scraps in a container which I keep in my freezer. I then put that into a compostable garbage bag, which goes in the green waste can.

Waving to all!

Hello mat mavens!
Thank you for the healing thoughts & wishes.

I am on the road to recovery after a short but intense battle with Covid, started with very mild symptoms last Tuesday and progressed from there. I have a lingering cough and I tire easily. I’m not doing much but I’m up and about. I haven’t done a formal workout since last Wed morning, that last workout kinda set me off I think. I’ve been taking leisurely neghbourhood walks since Saturday, living rural with few people around has its advantages, and doing my long supported yin stretches after.

Cyana - I get your frustration with the food industry. There’s so much processed crap out there masquerading as food. I also consider myself a conscientious omnivore, we eat very little red meat, primarily enjoy chicken & fish. And I love my salads & veggies. We are fortunate to have access to local producers. We eat vegetarian meals regularly, most often legume based. I make a lot of hummus & always put beans & lentils in my soups. If I want a veggie burger, I don’t want some crazy concoction with unpronounceable ingredients that attempts to imitate meat. Ugh!
Regarding garbage & composting….we have been separating our garbage for at least a decade. We have three outdoor bins….one for compostables, one for dry garbage, & one for recycling. We have so many critters about that we’ve avoided having our own composite bin. Our compostable kitchen waste is collected weekly & it goes through a several step composting process. The municipality uses it and it’s also sold to individuals & landscape companies. Our dry garbage gets picked up bi-weekly as does our recycling. It’s a good system.

I’m sorry for lack of personals, but I am waving to everyone.

A quick good morning wave to everyone!

Pam - I'm so sorry to hear that you're dealing with COVID, but glad to hear that you're improving. I've read some information from MD's who work with many COVID patients, and most of them say go easy on your return to working out. It sounds like your low intensity/nourishing activity is perfectly in line with those recommendations. We have two batches of hummus in the refrigerator as I type this. I have a friend in Seattle who has curbside composting pick-up and they can go pick up finished compost to use in their landscaping. I think that's great, as much of what goes into a typical landfill is food waste.

Beth - I'm glad your plumbing woes were fixed. The first time I had an apartment with a garbage disposal, I overfilled it with potato peels (was making a big batch of potato salad to take to a potluck) and the very kind maintenance guy gave me some tips on proper use of the disposal, LOL! There was briefly a guy who came to our farmer's market some years back who did the compost pail system that sounds similar to what your friend is doing.

Sandra - It sounds like vegetarianism has worked well for you. I hope one of these days my town will get curbside composting. Some commercial entity came in some years back and got a bunch of money to do composting and after several mishaps, they threw in the towel. Hopefully someone with a higher level of expertise and better track record will be able to convince them to give it a second try.

Speaking of the food rant, I'll link to a Substack article on the subject of the upcoming White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health that set me off. I'd wanted to attach the table in the article, but it was too big and I didn't have time to try to resize it. After I got to the third line of the table, I realized there were massive problems (and wouldn't be surprised to discover major commercial influence). Talk about fast track to diabetes and obesity!!!

Must get to work - I have several meetings today and I need to be as caught up as possible, as I'm off next week (hooray) and we are drawing ever closer to busy season.

Aww, Pam, I was worried you might have covid! Sorry it was intense but glad it was short; hope you don't have any lingering effects.

cyana, I'm sure you have a unique perspective into the healthcare (sickcare?) industry. So glad to hear you have off next week - will it be a staycation?

Happy Tuesday!

Hi everyone! Sorry to be MIA, DS visited again on Saturday and we made a full day of it including a nice walk along the LI Sound. Sunday and Monday were just too jam packed to visit VF. Recently I have accomplished:

Sunday:
~ A little neglected PT
~ GYM for 15 minutes treadmill and 60 weight machines and dumbbells
~ 6,528 steps

Monday:
~ LWR Posture Challenge Day 10
~ Attended grandniece's yoga class
~ 4,282 steps

Margot - we’re having a drought too, classified as “severe.” It feels like I shouldn’t complain with what the people in the western US are going through. It’s hard to imagine foggy England as drought-stricken. I really enjoy Kassandra’s new book. Here is my glowing review on Goodreads:

Paine, I love the Green Planet shows! David Attenborough is wonderful.

Pam, I’s so sorry to learn you had COVID and hope you are feeling better. Sending belated hugs and healing thoughts. Has it aggravated your asthma?

Beth, I contemplated going gray during the lockdown but am just not ready yet. Fascinating about your friend’s composting system. I wish that were offered where I live. I use a backyard composter bin that I picked up at the local transfer station.

Cyana, I’m also opposed to non-American companies buying up US land for farms. Come on! And I share your feelings toward the faux bleeding burgers. Gag. I tried them two times and not only are they gross, but they made me queasy. The processed pea protein and the oils? There are so many good veggie burgers made from grains and vegetables, and a good old portabella mushroom on the grill is a fab burger alternative. And NO to the ecovado!

Sandra, I can’t wait to hear about your first visit to the gym when it opens!

Hope I didn’t miss anyone - waves all around!

Pat, going gray is definitely a transition and a personal choice! I'm just glad that women are feeling freer to make that choice than before. And who knows, if I were more gray, maybe I'd still be dyeing too (I've definitely been tempted to return to at times, LOL).
