Question Pilates Question

I was reading thru some thinner thigh posts and many said that pilates really helped lean the legs. I haven't done much pilates and it got me thinking what is the difference between "pilates" and "barre" and basic "floor work" with regard to leg exercises??

I'm not totally sure what the differences are. I do know that Pilates has fewer reps and you generally don't use ankle weights. If you work out on the reformer, you will have some resistance from the springs which might help slenderize the thighs.

I haven't done much barre work so can't help you there.

I know that the Winsor Pilates leg workout has several variations and is very good.

In another thread someone mentioned the original Buns of Steel which is another good choice.

A lot of modern barre classes are really a blend of yoga, Pilates, and ballet, and when I was doing barre in person regularly pre-pandemic, I loved that equal balance. I did feel like my core, legs, abs, and rear benefited strength-wise and aesthetics-wise.

How barre differs from Pilates: “Barre focuses on small, isometric movements that are based in ballet,” says Hannah, who also teaches Peloton Pilates. “Pilates focuses less on the extremities and more on finding your center and drawing out the length in your body.”
