Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering from back pain. It's good that you are seeing a doctor, because if you know what is causing the pain, it will really help to pinpoint what you can or cannot do. I have chronic back pain. Mine is from two herniated discs, and arthritis in my hip. Sitting for long periods triggers it, as do other things. For example, swimming in a cold lake this summer triggered my pain and that lasted a few weeks! If you sit a lot at work, it helps to get up periodically (I would say at least every hour) to move around a bit. Physiotherapy helped me a lot. As well, the following DVDs have been really helpful to ease my back pain, and to prevent a full on recurrence. - Classical Stretch Back pain relief and prevention: https://www.amazon.com/Classical-Str...etch+back+pain - Classical Stretch Age Reversing Workouts: https://www.amazon.com/Classical-Str...ging+backwards It also helps me to do an Essentrics or Classical Stretch stretch segment to release any tension after another workout. I have had to change my workouts. No more high-impact aerobics (which was a staple for me!) and no weights heavier than 3 lbs. There are still a lot of options! I hope you feel better soon! |

Thanks Dorothy for your comment. Most people I know workout to lose weight which is totally fine too but for me it’s so much more than that. It’s my me time to do something for myself. Although I could stand to lose about 15 pounds but for me that’s all about what I put in my mouth LOL. I pray it’s nothing to serious but I don’t think it’s siatica or nerve because I don’t have any shooting pains down any of my legs. I guess I’ll find out soon enough.

I'm sorry you've been in pain!
As others have said, do let your doctor figure out what's going on and build from there. My occasional back pain was related to muscle spasms and other such things, not any sort of mechanical or inflammatory problem. For me, Classical Stretch has pretty much ended the trouble I was having. Sure, sometimes I get tired and sore, or truly overdo the whole sitting in a bad position thing, but for the most part now my back doesn't do more than have a random ache once in a while. Doing CS episodes of any sort fairly regularly, seems to have helped. I do love the CS back pain dvd because there are segments designed to be used while you're in pain, and to help you get out of it. There's also a workout specifically to strengthen the back to use regularly. One of the problems I have with other so-called back pain workouts is that they seem designed to prevent back pain by building strength and flexibility, which is fine, but they aren't the sort of thing I want to do WHILE I'm hurting.

It might help to improve your thoracic mobility and stretch out your hip flexors. 30 years of being a desk bound bureaucrat has caught up with me, so I understand what you’re going through. Cody app has a PT bundle for the back that has helped me more than “in person” PT. Of course, seeing a spinal specialist first is probably your best bet since we’re all different. Also, see if your company will get you a sit to stand desk. I had to get my doctor to write me a note so I could get a reasonable accommodation for the desk.

Can you be more specific about what part of your back when you say "mid-back"? As in, is it the part of your spine that is in line with the:
1) bottom of your ribcage 2) bottom of your shoulder blades 3) middle of your shoulder blades Also, what sort of yoga did you try (which dvds/youtube videos)? Can you describe them a bit if not a named workout? |

The pain is on the right of my back below my rib cage. It’s not a constant pain only if I make a certain movements it bothers me. I can do my daily things that I normally do walk sit sleep bend down etc. I did a BOHO Beautiful yoga practice which just made it worse. Then I gave myself a week off and it was getting better so I decided to do cathes fitsplit lic Cardio and metabolic conditioning and I’ve been bad since then. |
