Hi Everyone,

Last night I added on a yoga session from Silver & Fit - it was with Julie. I feel I should know who she is....it seems like a lot of well known instructors "of a certain age" end up on Silver & Fit! I enjoyed it - it moved at a nice moderate pace - no fast as lightening sun salutations.

Today, so far, nothing. I did get the bivalent booster yesterday at my Dr's office. Last night was rough - chills, aches, fever, etc. I do feel better now, but just really tired. I should be able to prop myself up and work though - whereas shot # 2 and booster # 1 - that was not an option. So I guess this one was a little more mild for me. This time though I do have a headache, I didn't get a headache from any of the other shots and I had a little nausea but that has passed. I have a 4 hour long training this morning, I think I'll bring my laptop over to my comfy chair and sit there w/ a blanket on and then hopefully by afternoon I'll feel more productive!

Carol - Ugh - I hate when I spend time making something from scratch and it doesn't turn out well. I am all for "cheating" with mixes! LOL! I hope your back is feeling better.

My dog is like that w/ bed time, too. It is funny how set in their ways they are. She also knows when it is 4:00 p.m. b/c that is when she has her dinner. I swear that she can tell time.

Take care!

Today's workouts were

Walking - 30 minutes;
Jessica Valant Pilates - Switch It Up Challenge - 10 Minute Pilates Workout

Nothing new here, although it was a nice day to walk outside.

Donna - Sorry you are having a time with your booster. My DS also got his yesterday and luckily it hasn't bothered him very much - not like the original series did. I'll have to look Julie up. I can't remember whose yoga classes I have done on Silver & Fit.

Hi Everyone,

Well, things went from bad to worse w/ my side effects yesterday. I managed to make it through my training - mainly by bringing my laptop to bed and lying down to listen. Fortunately, it is a subject I know well and I was taking it more for a refresher. After that was over, I took a sick day for the rest of the day and basically was either in bed or on the couch all day. I'm still not feeling 100% - very tired and still very achey. I think the fever is gone for the most part. But, wow, this was a doozy and I'm thinking it may have been worse than the 2nd shot or the 1st booster - or at least the same.

I am contemplating calling out sick again - but I feel bad, particularly with working from home, I can probably prop myself up and sit at my desk. I will maybe take a nap at lunch.

Anyway - if, after all this I get COVID I'm going to be mad.

If I feel better tonight I may do a gentle stretching workout to get the kinks out.

Carol - I'm glad your DS didn't have a bad time with it! My doctor said she didn't hear of a lot of side effects with this one - but I must be the outlier.

Today's workout was one of Jessica's new ones:

Jessica Valant Pilates - All Level Upper Back and Shoulder Workout - 25 minutes

This was a good one. You could make it as challenging as you want, yet it was still very do-able by a beginning exerciser. It was definitely more of a traditional weight workout than a pilates workout. Jessica used both a band/tubing and dumbbells.

Donna - Sure hope you are feeling better by now! We had a slew of new CoVid cases reported today - the most we have had in months.

Hi Everyone,

I think I'm back to the land of the living. Around mid-day yesterday I started to feel much better and, in fact, logged into work around 1:00 p.m. and made it through the day. This booster was as bad, if not worse, for me than Shot # 2 and Booster # 1. I'm glad it is over.....

I'm still going to take it easy for a few days. I know I wasn't really "sick" from the booster, but the side effects and my body's response to the booster was taxing. So...today I did:

Senior Shape w/ Lauren - Cardio w/ Weights for Seniors and Beginners. As is usually the case w/ Lauren this one was more challenging than I expected, but it was still good for what I was looking for today. it was also short, under 30 min.

I may add on some other activity today - a dog walk, maybe some Pilates/yoga. I'll play it by ear.

Carol - I guess it is better to suffer for 40 hours from the booster than to end up with it and be sick for a week or more...but sometimes, it feels like the "preventive" is worse than the disease! How did your DS do with the booster? I wonder what factors into why some people have side effects and others don't. My DH was just tired from the shots. My DD was sick from Shot # 2. She was fine after Booster # 1, the bivalent booster just gave her some body aches and chills overnight. I definitely react the worst in my family - more extreme and longer lasting. I think men in general don't experience as many side effects - one I think their size, and two, I think their immune systems are not as reactive. My immune system is very reactive, and that is one of the things that worries me about getting COVID - I think my own immune response to it would be the thing that would do me in. Ugh. Oh well... onward

Hope everyone has a good day!

Donna, Glad you are feeling better! Yes, sometimes it feels like the cure is worse than the disease. DS had a little bit of fatigue with the booster, but that was all. Same with me - I think this is my third booster now and I would say they affected me from worst to least - 2nd primary shot, 2nd booster, 1st primary shot, 1st booster, 3rd booster. So strange. I honestly don't know anyone who has had problems with this latest booster, but then I don't know many people who have gotten it either.

I think you are right about women having more side effects because of their immune systems being more turned on - just like women have more arthritis issues because of their over-active immune systems. I'm like you - before I got the first set of shots I was most worried about getting CoVid and having my immune system go completely nuts on me and do me in.

I saw my PCP today and she's going to try to get me in with another rheumatologist for a second opinion on the rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. She's also sending me to an ortho who's an ankle specialist and is big on alternative treatments for ankle pain. I am not interested in fusion or replacement, but I would like to be able to walk more without as much pain.

I noticed last night that Silver & Fit has announced that they are going from 9 classes on YouTube a day to only 4 classes a day in 2023 and they're going from 6 days a week to 5 days a week. Some of my favorite instructors aren't going to be teaching the classes that I most like (i.e. Madeleine's Intermediate Cardio class and Adita's Advanced Strength Class appear to be no more - they will have them, but taught by different instructors).

Right before bed, I rolled out my mat and did

Jessica Valant Pilates - 5 Minute Pilates for Abs & 5 Minute Pilates for Legs

I was excited to see that I could handle this slightly more challenging ab workout without any problems. Yes, I didn't do the hardest versions of the exercises, but I didn't do the easiest ones either.

Hi Everyone,

I may finally be over these side effects! Even though I felt better by Wed afternoon on Thurs/Fri - i still had episodes of having chills and fatigue. Ugh.

I missed checking in yesterday -

Senior Shape w/ Lauren - Christmas Walking & Dance Workout - this was nice, first half was cardio second half was weights. It was short, under 30 min.

Jessica Valent - 10 Min Full Body Stretch

Dog walk....

Today, so far:

Up to the Beat - Mariah Merry Mix

Jessica Valent - Full Body Workout for Women Over 50, 5 min abs, & Gentle Hip Stretches

I may get out to walk today although it is one of those damp, dreary and cold days....

Hope everyone has a good Saturday!

Today's workout was

Jessica Valant Pilates - Full Body Workout for Women Over 50 - 25 minutes

I used my 4 lb weights for almost everything. I will be sore tomorrow.

Good workouts Donna. We've had a lot of cloudy, dreary days lately. At least the sun was back out today.

Hi Everyone,

It is Kathy Smith's 71st b'day today, so in honor I did:

Kathy Smith - Peel Off the Pounds Pilates - this is about half Pilates-inspired cardio (low impact, core focused) and half Pilates-inspired toning. The toning is done in two sections - one for upper body/abs the second for lower body/abs. There is also a separate warm-up and cool down. The upper body section used light weights for the toning. The lower body was mainly Pilates floorwork. The DVD is programmable so you can mix and match the segments. Overall it was an enjoyable workout.

A few things that struck me though - this was filmed in 2007!! I can't believe it is that "old" as I was doing it I was thinking it was from maybe the 2012 era. So, when Kathy filmed this one she was 55/56.

I am out of shape b/c I found the cardio to be harder than it probably should be and also the upper body. I don't know if I'm still recovering from those booster side effects but if not, I really do need to add more cardio into my routines in the coming months and also get a little more serious w/ my weights.

It was really nice doing a DVD workout - it is nice that it was "complete" with warm-up, cool down, etc. That is one thing that is lacking in so many streaming workouts - there just isn't a sense of completeness or "polish" to many of them. I am guessing the instructors figure you can add on your own warm-ups/cool downs but many times I don't particularly if I'm rushing.

Carol - we were workout twins yesterday! I used my 5's for the standing stuff but for the arm exercises on the floor I used 3's.

Hope everyone has a good day!
