 You can definitely still get a great workout without the heavy bag, but you would have to modify some of the exercises that are done in between the punching/kicking combos that use the base of the bag as a prop (i.e. tricep dips, step ups) I think Mary's site has a pretty long clip that should give you a good idea ETA: You can always wear weighted gloves or punch with 1 lb weights to increase the effectiveness without using a bag.
