Calm or Headspace App

I'm hoping to meditate more in the new year. I'm a newbie and was wondering which app everyone prefers and why? Looking for short meditations as well as something to help wind down at bedtime. TIA!

I use Insight Timer. I think I downloaded Headspace but you only get a few meditations for free. I'm not paying for an app when Insight Timer has so much free. I don't think I tried Calm.

Thank you! I didn't know about this app but it looks great! I like that you can customize the amount of time, ambient sound, and bell.

Insight Timer is very good, lots to choose from.

Insight Timer is great, but I also have a friend who uses Calm and she absolutely loves it.

Insight Timer

I prefer the Insight Timer. It's so versatile. I think you have to pay for Calm, and the Headspace guy aggravates me.

I use Insight Timer, too. They had a half off sale so I actually paid for it to try the courses. So far, I've only finished one of the courses I've tried.

I absolutely love Insight Timer! I'm up to 444 consecutive days. There's such a wonderful variety of guided meditations. I finally broke down early this year and bought a membership. I listen to the courses when I'm walking (sometimes you're supposed to meditate while you're listening, but I do my best ... haven't gotten run over by a car yet, anyway).

How do you do 444 days in a row on the free version? I downloaded it and it has 7 day free trial, and even to load that I have to agree to automatically move onto $89/year.

Helen, that seems weird. It looks to me like you only need to pay for Insight Timer if you want to access the courses. I've been using it free for over a year with no problems.
