club quality step

Hi VFers,

(Note: I cross-posted this on the "Clothing, Shoes, Equipment, Gear" board.) After a hiatus of many years, I'm venturing back into the world of step aerobics. Which step model do you like best, and where can I get it most cheaply? I'm willing to go to a brick-and-mortar store (instead of buying online) if that's cheaper.

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

I lucked into a club sized Reebok step with four risers on Craig's List for $20. I put an ad in saying I was looking for one and someone called me within a few days. I love it!

@paideiamom, what a bummer! My sister lives in Atlanta, but I'm in SoCal. Thank you so much for your kind offer!

I have The Original Health Club Step which is the one you most often see at gyms. Here is a link to it on Amazon.

I purchased mine from the Thrift Store for around $20 and I see them all the time at Thrift Stores, garage sales and Craigslist. BTW, I have a club step.

Thank you everyone. Another question, how much overhead clearance do you think is reasonable to do step aerobics effectively? I have a very low ceiling in my exercise room so would have about 14" of room above my head if I was standing on top of the step if I'm using 2 risers on each side (4 total). Is that sufficient room, or should I can the whole idea?

Hmmm...how high can you jump?? You might be limited to lower impact step workouts if you only have a foot or so of space above your head. That would make me nervous, actually.
