Cathe...My new 'puke in a bucket' workout instructor...

So, I ordered two of Cathe's workouts while I am waiting for her Low Impact series to be released: Lower Body Blast and High Reps. I did 20 minutes of Lower Body Blast tonight. I literally started to cry by the time I decided to stop at 20 minutes. And I feel like I might puke my guts up right now. Thanks Cathe!

I went into the living room to tell DH what a loser I am and how I'll never be able to complete this workout. He told me to start out doing half of what Cathe does and work my way up to her reps. I don't know about that, though. It sounds good, but I am not the most coordinated person and I almost fell a couple of times. Add to that trying to count at half speed and I think I might be doomed for (a) failure or (b) injury.

I'm going to give LBB another go in the morning. Will let you know what happens.

Don't be hard on yourself, those are difficult dvds to start out with Cathe. There are several premixes on both, why not try the shorter versions and work up from there. Lower Body Blast has a great standing leg drill which is more like a barre workout that you can start out with. Lowering your weights may help out too.

I'll have to look at the premixes. That barre one you mentioned sounds good. I'm only doing 3lb dumbells and a 12lb body bar in place of the barbell. Not sure it would be worth it to go much lower than that. But, I will definitely look at the premixes. I've never taken advantage of a premix feature on any of my dvds...Never thought to do that. Thanks!

Don't worry Jennifer, I felt the same way the first time I did Lower Body Blast, to this day I still havn't come close to finishing it it's a tough, tough workout so don't be so hard on yourself Do try the standing drills, Cathe's take on Barre,I think, and it's FABULOUS

Don't get discouraged. I could by no means keep up with Cathe when I first started doing her workouts a few years ago. It takes time! My advice for you now is to remember the pause button on your remote. Don't be shy about using it to take breaks as you need them. As time goes on, you will find you need to use that pause button less and less. It doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen if you just keep at it.

And I second the advice about starting out with one of the shorter premixes.

I agree with looking at the Premixes!! I agree with looking at the premixes on any of your other workouts too....you're most likely missing some good stuff there!!! Dont be too hard on yourself. I'm a seasoned Cathlete and I had to pause many times my first time thru High Reps!! Do you have any other dumbells, that may be the issue too. Investing in a 5lb, 8lb and 10 lb set would be a great investment!

The first time I did High Reps, I also did about 20 minutes. The next time I went a little longer etc. 'til I could complete the whole thing. Don't bother with any weights at all at first. You can also go through and pick and choose the moves you can do so you don't choose ones where you'll fall and injure yourself.

Since it's one lower body move after another without rest, you're probably going to get quite sore if you do too much too fast.

You might also try the lower body only premix on High Reps since it's shorter.

And don't forget, you can still get a killer lower body workout without weights as she does quite a bit of reps. Try the whole thing without weights and you will be surprised after a couple of workouts, how your body will develop neuromuscular adaptations so that the moves and coordination will feel much easier. Then slowly add in the weights.

I also will skip many of the cardio intervals if I don't have a lot of energy and I want to focus more on strength. Those cardio intervals will deplete your energy stores and make the weights portion feel all that much harder.

Overall though, I love both those workouts. :-)

On some days I can only do 20 mins or 30 mins and I can keep up with Cathe regularly. I had to work hard and for a long time to get to this fitness level I am at now. So if you were able to crank out 20 mins then my hat is off to you because you did well!

I definitely say try it with no weights. I sometimes do Jari Love with no weights (the lower body stuff) and with the high reps, I still get DOMS and a killer workouts. Plus, it helps my balance when my hands are free.
