Get Off The Couch Baby Boomers, Or You May Not Be Able To Later

http://www.npr.org/sections/health-s...-able-to-later

The old normal: if nothing else, get 30 minutes of activity a day.
The new normal: if nothing else, stand up every 30 minutes.

ETA: it's about a study that was conducted over a decade, not just someone's Facebook rant.

Thanks for sharing. Another powerful reminder of the importance of the harmful effects of sitting and how even light activity is important.

Not sure what FSS is

Lol, breaking the silence! I read this one on FB and, like similar articles I've read lately that tell us to get off our butts, it's a good reminder! Unfortunately these articles often preach to the converted, namely people like us here at VF. Those who would benefit from reading it and taking it to heart (and I have a few them in my life) don't.

I have a coworker who I am encouraging to move more. She has started exercising and feel so much better.

She mentioned how she can move much better now. I told her if she was having difficulty moving before age sixty where would she be in ten years? She soberly responded, probably bedridden.

Thankfully she is doing better. This article.....I am sending it to her.

Thanks!

As I get older, I'm finding that I really do need to limber up several times a day.

All those Classical Stretch hip cleaners and other such moves make a difference.

If I don't do such things regularly I'm really stiff, which is why I dislike long car rides these days.

And that advice to lie down flat on the floor and stand all the way up ten times in a row is also probably good stuff.

I've managed to develop a daily yoga practice, and even that little bit has loosened my hips and made it easier to stand up.
