Sparkpeople Will Be History

I've been a Sparkpeople member for quite a few years. Recently, they announced that they would be shutting down their current platform on August 17, but they've invited everyone to jump on board their new enterprise, Spark America or Spark360 (or whatever ).

I'm going to miss their nutrition tracker, articles, and to a certain extent, their community (although less so, because I have VF and Facebook groups). Re: nutrition tracking, what are some good alternatives? What is the best one? I would prefer ad free, and would pay up to $5 a month (what I paid on Sparkpeople to get the ad free version). BTW, the new platform will have a nutrition tracker. I'm just not sure I want to continue with Sparkpeople (or Spark America or Spark360!).

Thanks,
Donna

Thanks for posting this. I visit SP every now and again, so I would have been wondering what happened. Sometimes there's a few years gap between visits. This makes me sad. There was a LOT of information on that site regarding various topics.

Sad news! I visit the site every blue moon. I used their tracker for a year and was successful with it. I moved to myfitnesspal as their app was better designed to me. I disliked the sparkpeople app but liked the desktop interface. They have some valuable info on their forums over the years. I was wondering if they were going to revamp or close down as many have moved on to more modernized services.

Sad news, it was a fun place. I was active for a few years but haven't visited in ages.

i would say wait and see what their new nutrition tracker might be like. in the meantime, myfitnesspal is not bad. i've also used fitday.com for a really long time.

The best nutrition tracker I've found is this one and I use the free version of it:

I found some really helpful articles on there, and I did use the Spark Coach feature for a few months, which I found helpful.

I will probably look into myfitnesspal, as it seems the most popular. However, someone did make a comment about it not being as comprehensive as Sparkpeople's nutrition tracker.

I was quite active for the first few years I was on it, but I have been on again/off again for the past 2-3 years. In fact, I found out about their new transformation on a Sparkpeople Facebook group because I had not been on the site or used the app for a few weeks.

cronometer.com is a resource that keeps coming up on the Sparkpeople Facebook group as being a good alternative. I will check it out.

Thanks,
Donna

I know they will start offering their new version of nutrition tracker starting August 15, but I don't know what to think. Will they bale again if this new project doesn't do well? I guess there's always that risk with any nutrition tracker I choose, though.

I loved their website and forums but never clicked with the app. I wonder how this new one will be different.
