Red face Richard Simmons Thrift Store Surprise/Recs?

Okay, two surprises.

First surprise, I liked it. He doesn't chat too much. He counts. He is not too goofy. It was fine. It is the only tubing exercise I have ever done; I think I will do more.
The second surprise, 15 minutes into it I got to watch a 90-second segment of a Lifetime movie!! It was quite startling. Okay, I paid 80 cents for the VHS and I like it, so it is all good. I just found it very funny.

Anybody have any RS vid suggestions? I have found a site on ebay that has a bunch of RS for not much money and shipping deals for multi purchases so let me know your recs.

Thanks,

Renda

I only have RS cardio workouts but I can definitely suggest some. Mind you they ARE goofy (very!) but how often do you get to LOL while exercising? And I the music! I recommend:
~Supersweatin' Party Off the Pounds (his best, imo)
~Disco Sweat
~Sweat and Shout (aka Sweatin' to the Oldies 4)
~Sweatin' to the Oldies 3

IIRC, his first 2 Sweatin' to the Oldies have slower moves and are very beginner-ish, imo. I would totally avoid his Blast-Off series (60s, 80s, etc). They were not well-made, imo, featured an annoying (to me) cast and even more badly cued than normal. Zero fun factor. But I always have a good time with the ones listed, especially the first 2. The thing to remember with Richard is, his cuing is terrible. But the moves are dead simple and I often substitute my own moves anyway. It's the music that counts!

ETA - Wearing 1lb weighted gloves helps raise the heart rate and increases the cardio effect.

Do the back covers indicate what songs are on his workouts? I'm debating between Disco Sweat and Supersweatin'. I tried one of the Blast-Offs last year and didn't care so much for it.

Thanks Lucky Star.

That is exactly the info I need. Goofy doesn't bother me, especially when I am prepared for it. The beginner issue was also something I was concerned with. I didn't want too, too easy.

Thanks again to all.

So Renda which Richard Simmons video did you get from the thrift store? The one I came across recently in a thrift store was from the Blast-Off series, and even though it isn't the same one that I tried already one Blast-Off was enough for me. But I am curious about his other videos.

Sounds like Renda may have picked up Tone and Sweat.

I also like Blast and Tone (total body with dumbells) and Mega Mix Blast Off (cardio and light upper body toning at the end) and Disco Sweat (cardio and abs).

Disco Sweat

Renda, I have a copy of Disco Sweat VHS, unopened. I found it at a yard sale. I thought someone here may be interested in it. If you think you may want it, let me know. I'll send it to you.

Ugh I can't stand the Blast-Offs; they're not fun at all to me! But yes, the songs are listed. Here you go:

Party Off the Pounds
I Wanna Dance with Somebody
Let's Hear It for the Boy
True Colors
Like A Virgin
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Mickey
If I Could Turn Back Time
Shake It Up
New Attitude
Lean On Me

Disco Sweat
Disco Inferno
Car Wash
Shake Shake Shake Your Booty
You Make Me Feel Mighty Real
Give It Up
Boogie Fever
Born To Be Alive
Disco Doll
I Will Survive/Last Dance
I Love the Nightlife
I Am What I Am

Sweat & Shout
Shout
Heatwave
Proud Mary
Up The Ladder
Devil With a Blue Dress
Someday We'll Be Together
Mony Mony
The Wanderer
Dance to the Music
Shotgun

Sweatin to the Oldies 3
Do You Wanna Dance
Gimme Some Lovin'
The Name Game
Out of Limits
Louie Louie
Build Me Up Buttercup
California Dreamin'
Born To Be Wild
Rockin' Robin
I Get Around

I just remembered I also have these on VHS:

Dance Your Pants Off
Celebration
The Rose
Gloria
She Works Hard for the Money
Call Me
Total Eclipse of the Heart
Conga
All Night Long
Sweet Dreams
Flashdance

Groovin' in the House
Hot Stuff
Jive Talkin'
Happy Together
Dancing on the Ceiling
Dream A Little Dream of Me
Hot Hot Hot
Cotton Eye Joe
The Beat Goes On
Turn the Beat Around
Philadelphia Freedom

Disclaimer - this IS Richard Simmons, after all. He's loud, goofy and a terrible cuer. Expect to modify many of the movements UP for intensity. I often sub my own moves altogether. But the music is a wonderful change to the usual workout music and irresistible.
