Yoga article...

This article was in the Wash Post last Thursday. It's a bit of a disturbing bummer to me, but it is "yoga in the news" after all. So I thought I'd post it here for you all..

What a shame that people misunderstand what yoga is and then the kids don't get the benefit of doing yoga.

What ignorant fools. Wonder if those against war would want to ban pilates since it originated during WW I and was used to rehabilitate injured soldiers.

Some people really take things out of context and warp it.

i'm sure if yoga was created by the Christians they wouldn't have a problem with it - they're problem is not that its another religion aside from their own.

I teach yoga to the children in my first grade class and was the lucky recipient of a grant that helped me pay for Yoga Ed teacher training @ Kripalu this past summer.
Even before my training I was very aware of not teaching kids anything that even hinted at spirituality and after the training I am now ultra vigilant in the terms that use just because of people like these.
The training felt so odd b/c of the setting, (there is a meditation garden outside the classroom and many spirituality classes being offered) but at the same time we were told how to speak about yoga in a westernized way.
I feel sorry for these people and even worse for their kids
