This old lady is doing pretty well!!
So I was at work Saturday and it has been super busy and we got a little squirrelly and somehow, don't ask me how, I found myself on the floor next to a coworker in her 20s, having a pushup contest.
Now, I am no pushup superhero by any means. I did the 100 pushups challenge once and got to 61 on my toes. But that was in a galaxy long ago and far away. Now I'm lucky to be able to do 16 on my knees (although I go deep and my form is excellent, so I am at least getting the most out of the exercise that I can!)
So I started cranking out my knee pushups and my coworker in her 20s COULD NOT KEEP UP. Then I started doing squats, just bodyweight squats, which I can do a LOT of because I usually do them weighted. She said "I'm not even going to try to keep up because I KNOW I can't do that!"
55 year old me just kicked some 20-something butt in a fitness contest! It was SO MOTIVATING, I can't tell you! Like so many of us, I have had to slow down due to health issues, work hours, and other life stresses and messes. And I am OK with that, but still sometimes I feel "less than" I was when I was younger, thinner, and fitter (which is silly, because in so many other ways, intellectually and emotionally and spiritually I am in such a more mature place!)
It really motivated me to hit my strength training hard tonight! Success really does breed success sometimes.
