They've made it clear we're welcome at their church, but we've never gone, and I fear it could cast a dark shadow on the celebrations if we did, since the current preacher at their church makes my partner furiously angry. At one family event the preacher and I got into a pretty bewildering (to me) conversation about whether or not women should be allowed to get an education. As a woman completing her PhD, he and I might as well be from different planets.

My SIL's parents are celebrating their 50th anniversary this weekend and are having a party at a restaurant. I was not invited and have no idea why because I normally do get invited to these types of events. I'm wondering if I should send them a card or do nothing and just ignore the whole thing. I personally believe if you aren't invited to an event, you have no obligation to do anything, but just wondering what others would do. I do (or thought I did) have a good relationship with them. TIA.

You're absolutely right that they might not have invited me for reasons that had nothing to do with me.
