Helen, I think the workout you might be referring to is Amy Bento's Slo-Mo.

Our ball is one of those "anti-burst" ones with a really thick skin. We have a Gaiam one that is clear and I don't think I'd use that one. Some of you may recall that I had one of those Barry's Bootcamp balls blow up in my face. Very scary!

Whoah - that IS scary!
Mine are all cheapies ($30 max) but opaque and thick-walled when deflated. There's a local manufacturer who makes them for Physiotherapists, but they're ~$120. Being under 140 lb and not doing this, I always thought that bursting wasn't ever a risk. Alta - Under what kind of circumstances did yours burst?

I think after a while they do need to be replaced. At least with mine, I find that every time I put air in them, I have to blow them up bigger, to make them firm. Geez, one of them is soo big now, it's awkward to use for some exercises, lol.

That's why I bought a Spri since it's a slow to deflate ball. It's designed not to burst but to deflate slowly so you don't get hurt. I'm guessing Alta your Anti-burst ball may be designed the same way. I was curious about my stability ball that I sent Spri and email asking when they recommend the balls to be replaced. I'll post it when they respond. It may give you an idea about your ball too.

those also help to keep the ball stable... which defeats the purpose of a stability ball, which is for your core to keep the ball stable....

alta..... i don't think your balls need to be replaces.... the man they are attached to has some nice muscles... i'd keep them a while longer (ya.... i went there... she asked for it! )
this is a really good question...... our balls are kept in the garage where it does get warm in the summer.... so i wonder if that adds to degradation so that they need to be replaced more often? i know they do lose air a lot! i have to blow mine up quite often!!!!
