Question Osteoporosis Prevention DVDs: Mirabai Holland, Miriam Nelson?

Has anyone tried either of these videos for osteoporosis prevention?

* Skeletal Fitness by Mirabai Holland - Osteoporosis Prevention Bone Loading and Strength Training Exercises: A Workout For Bones

* Miriam E. Nelson Ph. D: Strong Women - Osteoporosis Prevention

The Nelson DVD is sold under the Gaiam label and is led by some instructor I've never heard of.

Alta - the Miriam Nelson one is available on Netflix. I rented it and previewed it but didn't actually do it because it looked very beginner. I can't tell you much more than that. Sorry!

Thanks, Karen. I guess the Nelson one is too new for reviews.

Beauty to the Bone by Margaret Richard????

Okay, she doesn't use such heavy weights...but that doesn't mean we have to follow suit?

I don't have either of these dvd's though I've heard of Miriam Nelson's. I thought any solid, challenging weights work alternating with ( or combined with some vigorous cardio, even without high impact) would help our bones stay or get stronger

Off to make note to ask for that post-menopausal bone scan that I pray and hope will show I've inherited the strong bones of my mom's family...

Alta -- I have the Skeletal Fitness one and it's very, very beginnerish. The only parts I really like and do (occasionally) are the towel exercises, which I really like, and the handpress isometric exercises. She's come out with some more advanced ones and has clips on her website -- but if you'd like to try this, I'd be glad to lend it to you for as long as you'd like. PM or Email me and let me know.

I bought the Gaiam one. There are informational sections and a workout. Also, a little booklet with some good information about bone health. The cardio workout consists of some higher impact moves. Then there is some basic strength and a short, but interesting balance/stretch section. The workout is very basic and geared towards a beginner.

Is the workout on Gaiam's Miriam Nelson Strong Bones DVD the same as the DVD that comes in the Gaiam Restorative Exercise for Strong Bones Kit? The workout is led by Katy Santiago and uses tubing. Here is a video clip

No, that clip is not the same as the Miriam Nelson one. But that clip sure sounded interesting - I'll have to listen to all of it when I have more time.

No to take this completely OT, but does body weight work help prevent bone loss or is it pretty much strictly weights and impact aerobics?
