I know it's neither vegan nor whey, but my preferred protein powder is collagen peptide powder. It blends beautifully, and I can bake with it.

I don't have much experience with protein powders, but the one that I am currently using is Tera's Whey, which comes in chocolate and vanilla (that I know of--I get whatever is sold in my local cooperative store). I mix it with kefir, frozen mixed berries, and ground flaxseed or chia seeds. Not sure if everyone would love it, but it works for me!

I really like Orgain, which I get from amazon. I get vanilla and if I want chocolate I put cocoa powder in it. Most other powders give me an upset stomach.

I also use collagen as my protein powder in my morning smoothies. No taste (though I am sure you can get flavored if you want), no weird texture, no weird side effects (soy and hemp and whey do NOT agree with me) and also just one ingredient.

Does collagen powder have a smell? Whey smells rotten to me, even if it is flavored.

No, no smell for the unflavored version. I have used both Vital Proteins version and Thrive Market Collagen.

Thanks a bunch! I'll try those brands.

I like Orgain as well. It is also available at Costco and it does go on sale.
