Lexy, sorry to hear you had to go through this horrible ordeal! I would take it easy through Saturday and maybe test it out on Sunday. Try standing around, walking around, drawing on the walls (makeshift chalkboard). Don't forget that you can always exercise the other leg. There's been research that shows that by exercising one half of the body it actually helps the other half out when you're unable to use it. Many hugs and kisses and hope you feel better and are up to par soon! |

Nancy, Yes, I start PT on Monday. An ACL is a much bigger deal to recover from I think. At least that's what I've been told. How did she damage hers?
Mine was damaged when I got blindsided by several dogs at the doggie park. Not my dogs cuz they know better. Just dogs "grab-a**ing" and one didn't make the turn fast enough. The "turn" was supposed to be BEFORE the side of my leg. It kinda ticked me off that the doc thought it was minor surgery - cuz to him it is. I just feel broken. I'm really a healthy person but in the past 10 years I've had 5 surgeries!! 1) pronator-release in R arm 2) carpal tunnel release in same arm (two fingers have permanent nerve damage cuz that wasn't the problem) 3) ovarian cyst removed 4) two disks replaced in my neck (that was the problem!) 5) now my knee. I'm gonna go take a nap. I can't stand the pity-pot anymore. Pathetic Lexy |

Viscosupplements to treat knee pain
My sympathy goes to you Lexy! Best wishes for a fast recovery.
Viscosupplements are injections of hyaluronic acid, the theory being that they replace your naturally-formed hyaluronic acid in the joint and it seems to work by preventing conduction of pain signals. It's mostly used to treat osteoarthritis of the knee. You could expect to get single injections 7 days apart for 3 weeks (Synvisc) or for 5 weeks (Hyalgan). I don't have any personal experience with it but a search of Medline shows that folks with arthritis report a 40% improvement in pain and the benefits seem to last from 3 to 6 months. There are reports of problems, occasional infections or scar tissue formed. Hopefully someone else will report their experience...
