Hi, as stated above the “insecure site” message appears because we use a free shared SSL certificate provided by our web hosting company. We DO have site security, but I have not purchased a separate VF owned SSL certificate with our name on it because VF does not sell anything, capture credit card info etc. so the cost is not worth it. The free shared certificate provides the same security except the name on the security certificate belongs to our hosting company. Because the name does not match videofitness.com the browser error message appears. This is a good thing in the case of a phishing situation / you would not want to log in to a site pretending to be amazon with your amazon credentials (for example). But in our case the mismatch goes not mean we are insecure, just that we use a shared security certificate.

It is always good practice to use a unique password here or anywhere else, however.

I will consult with the hosting company to see if there is a way to stop the warnings besides buying our own SSL.

I use webroot, and chrome and I don't get it. Although when I first started using webroot, I did get the warning. Weird.

You got it. VF is not an e-commerce site so not necessary to be secure. If you want to know if a site is secure, look for HTTPS in the URL. Here is VF: http://www.videofitness.com/

The S means secure. If you are on a site where you are going to buy something, be very wary if it is not HTTPS.

I've notice recently how much slower the activity on VF has been, much slower than usual even though I know it's gotten slower over the past few years. I'm wondering if this thread has anything to do with that. I sure hope not. I think the security issue has been explained satisfactorily, at least for me. It just seems very coincidental. Has anyone else noticed how extremely quiet VF has been of late? Any other thoughts?

I find the VF software, which hasn't been updated in 9 years, to be clunky and not especially user-friendly compared to later versions of vBulletin I've seen on other forums. But I think traffic is slower on forums in general, not just VF, and reflects the greater use of social media.

I think it's mainly that DVDs and other physical media have dried up, a lot. VF began as a place where people could get information about videos to decide what to buy. Also when it began, many instructors didn't have their own sites. Now it's more like a niche group, like for fans of classic movies.
