I think it's endurance too. I also think it's surprising that Gin would create step to help knees. I find I have to limit it to avoid tweaking my knees. I would think repetitive movements up and down on the step would hurt rather than help by leading to overuse issues?

Step works different muscles than traditional weight work I believe. There isn't anything I can think of offhand in traditional weight exercises that simulates what is done in step, but please, someone feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken?

I have "rediscovered" step after quite a few years of not doing it and I've followed back in love. I don't care if it's "cool" or not. I don't think I'm particularly "cool" either and I'm too old to care about that either.

I did a step workout today after a several week break. It was so fun!

It's funny, but I can follow some complex choreography with step ( I did Tap Less and Step More), but give me simple floor aerobics and I'm a major klutz.

Ha, same here! I really need that visual cue of the step to orient me.

I love step, but I really have to limit it these days to once a week; it definitely can aggravate my plantar fasciitis, so if I sense that at all coming on, I just need to cut it out completely.

I love a good step workout! It can't be too dancey, though, or I'll trip over the step. But step workouts that have simpler choreography and are more athletic are FUN!!! If I notice after doing step that my feet are bothering me, it is usually because it is time to get a new pair of shoes, but other than that step doesn't seem to bother my feet or knees (for now- I hope this doesn't change!)

I miss my step class from years ago. It was a late class and a core group of folks. It was my "happy hour" twice a week.

I would like to try it again but Rec classes are canceled.

I wish Gin Miller would put Aerostep out on DVD. I don’t remember it well, but I liked it a lot and seem to remember some of the moves were done off the step and there was a background exerciser that I thought looked like Céline Dion. I’d also like to see all of Jane Fonda’s step workouts on DVD.

AeroStep is on YouTube. The video quality is not great.

I enjoy step, but I can't handle tricky choreography, so I'll just modify. I almost always just use the platform without risers, so it doesn't bother my knees.

At Mary's last sale I bought Rhythmic Step/MIC/IMax and I'd forgotten what a great workout IMax is! The choreography is doable, I just modify some of the impact.

step really works your muscles in a different way. i used to be a jogger, and when i tried my first step video - wow, i was amazed at the workout i received. i agree it's a combination of working your heart, eye-hand coordination, and your legs. if it bothers your knees, try tweaking your foot placement.

you can always lower your step - i just use the top and no risers.

you can also not step throughout the entire workout and just do the part of it on the floor.

i also do the real basic ones - Gilad, Gin, Denise, Kathy Smith, Karen Voight, Kathy Kaehler, Ballroom Aerobics. These are slow enough to allow you to focus on foot placement and intense enough for your heart.
