Supraspinatus - Full Thickness Tear - anyone had this?

Hi all,

I've never had an injury before, no stitches, no twisted ankles... - never even had the flu! So this is really bothering me - affecting my mood dreadfully.

Whilst roller skating, fell and landed on the front tip of my shoulder - fractured the head of the humerus & the supraspinatus tendon (over the top of shoulder that deals with lat raise) was torn from the bone completely, but only ~7mm.

Saw a shoulder surgeon who said wouldn't need to go that route.

It was 10 weeks ago now and still hurts, a LOT if accidentally moved the wrong way. It's a pinchy kind of feeling.

Has anyone had this and it healed without surgery?
How long did it take to stop hurting?
How long before really back to true normal?

I didn't have that particular injury, but I wanted to empathize because I injured myself roller skating a few years ago and ended up with a distal radial fracture. It took a good 3 months for me to feel like I could use my arm fully 😟. It was very frustrating, especially because it was my dominant arm and it made EVERYTHING difficult to impossible to do for a while. Even running/ elliptical was hard with my arm in a sling and unable to use for balance. I also have never broken a bone or had any major injury.

Anyway, I hope the healing starts to speed up for you! And now I'm much more wary of roller skates than I ever used to be

Stephanie - mine's the dominant side as well, but at least I can write with both hands - taught myself in high school.

I've been kind of expecting 6 months to be FULLY back (Dr. 'Net said so) but was hoping for someone who didn't take so long - to give me some optimism.

As to roller skating, I'll be back at it ASAP - I did it at derby training.
