Missing new workout DVDs

Since I started seriously working out again last October, I’ve bought a ton of Jessica Smith workouts which I love, but can’t find anything new by Kathy Smith, Petra Kolber, Debra Mazda, Tamilee Webb and several others. I’ve e-mailed a couple instructors and asked if they would be making any new DVDs and usually get a response that they are busy with something else right now - maybe later. I know Debra’s been working on her book and Petra is giving motivational speeches and Kathy is selling her protein powder, but I really, really miss New DVDs coming out. It makes me a little sad.

Yes me too. It seems the only instructors doing DVDs are Cathe, Jessica Smith, Jillian Michaels, and Kelly Coffey Meyer. Even Tracie Long is going the streaming route. I wish Amy Bento would come out with something new.

Not sure this is OK to say as a vidiot but I miss the hype more than the actual workouts. The hype I find motivating. It generates more conversation and discussion and keeps me thinking about fitness longer. Somehow without any new workouts coming out there are still old ones I find myself thinking about acquiring...

Misty Tripoli also releases dvds. That is a really short list, though.

I miss the anticipation of new workouts and the discussion. That was really enjoyable.

Tamilee had been doing short streaming workouts. I need to fiind the site.

Yes, this! Instructors don’t do a lot to hype their upcoming YouTube releases or even their streaming offerings...they just appear. I appreciate the new content, but I also miss the excitement and anticipation of something new.

I also really prefer the beautiful settings (well, sometimes) and really well planned and structured workouts that (some) DVD’s offered.

I’m happy to stream, but still want the excitement and quality of dvd workouts.

I hate to say it, but I think a lot of our favorite instructors may be slowing down and/or retiring. But as someone who has recently been having trouble streaming things on my ancient Roku in my workout room, I'm starting to resent streaming-only instructors and platforms. They're not accessible for everyone at all times, and sometimes I want the reliability of a piece of physical media. OTOH, streaming is where things are going, that and dedicated subscription-based apps. Our collections aren't going to go anywhere unless we get rid of them or the equipment breaks down, though, so grab what you can now!

I’m with Buffmama in loving the hype - even for an instructor or method I’ll never use. I love reading about people being charged up over fitness.

And yes, I do miss new DVDs.

So as crazy as it sounds I’m turning back time. Long before I complete my current rotation I decide upon my next rotation. I shop my dvd collection for the DVDs I want to use and then search VF for reviews and posts that came out around the time of release. By the time my present rotation ends I’m totally psyched to start the next one!

Kathy, Tamilee, etc. are in their 50s and 60s now, aren't they? So it makes sense they are ready to retire and have some me time or explore other things. The younger generation of fitness people seems to be more interested in being social media influencers than leading workouts. Why get all sore and sweaty when you can just pose on the beach and sell paper workout challenges.

Yes, a lot of our favorite instructors are retiring or slowing down. And I'm not on board with streaming services. We went to streaming only tv (sling/hulu/netflix) and usually have problems with programs freezing and buffering. And I don't want to spend money on all the instructors I like with their streaming services. That can add up quick! I like having a physical product. Maybe if the technology of streaming were more reliable I would be more for it.

Well, that’s the thing, Sue. I was hoping Kathy and Tamilee would do something like Debbie Siebers did. Kathy did Moving through Menopause - now we need Moving toward Medicare!!! 😁😁😁
