Tall box climbs/step ups really make my heart rate soar but regular leg presses do not. What really gave me the shape in my "fanny" was heavy deadlifts. They give me the indent "where the glutes and the hamstrings meet". I remember that line from the infomercials.

I have to work on it consistently to try to get teach it to "fire" the same way my right one does. It still doesn't, but I do see small improvements.

It's definitely worth seeing a physiotherapist or other exercise specialist to help you with this one, since causes of this are variable. I suspect that addressing it is going to take a lot more than the Fanny Lifter, or any one device or exercise. This is one of those cases where some smaller, isolation type exercises will be needed to allow larger muscle group exercises to (eventually) become effective.
You know, I do see improvement in my left glute when I do barre, Core Fusion glute work and really work at activating the muscles. I just can't seem to do that with step ups and other moves like lunges and squats.

I have heard that if you raise the toes on the foot that is on the box it helps to remind you to push through your heal which will put more focus on your glutes and hamstrings instead of your quads.

I also started getting a smaller, flatter glute muscle from using the transfirmer. the only workouts that helped was the original bar methods.

Dead lifts are a girls best friend! I love them, all varieties of them! They are so good for developing the tush, rounding it, and strengthening the back and core at the same time- good for those of us (I mean me) that hate core work on the floor. I have the indent you are talking about. It's a feature I love and you're right DLs with heavy weights can make it happen.

Same with quats and dead lifts. It's a very good techinique to employ. If you find you (anyone) has issues remembering this, place your toes onto 3 lbs dumbbells and it will force you to push into your heels. If you are advanced and your balance is good, you can place you heels on the dumbbells which again forces balance and required you to push into the heels. Same thing but it changes the gravitity and the second option is considered advanced and not for the clumsy person as you can fall or rock forward to easily.

Although both aren't an option for tall box climbs.

Yeah. Part of the reason I started doing Ballet body a few years ago is that it incorporated several of the exercises that my PT had me doing. It does help a lot.

The other things that have helped a lot is Jill Miller type yoga, Katy Bowman's stuff (several existing threads on these). From traditional weight work, the most useful has been single legged deadlifts.

As with all things, YMMV.

Wow, interesting thread!
I just recently started getting into the FIRM workouts with the Fannylifter (I'm using the Transfimer box though) and I would have sworn I can feel it in my 'fanny'!

I haven't done the workouts long enough to actually say whether or not something changed, but I certainly feel it!

I used the 8-10 inch box and the Bar Method and got great results.

+1

I always made sure to push through my heel and just ended up with massive thighs. I stopped using the box altogether and went with deadlifts, squats and lunges. That's given my butt a nice lift and good shape. Hubby has commented several times that my thighs are leaner too.

Back in the day when I started out with the Firm and tall box, it definitely rounded and lifted my glutes. I don't do tall box or step much anymore, but I agree deadlifts are awesome and I have good luck with Core Fusion and barre type glute work also.
