Plyo box

I want to get a plyo box and have analysis paralysis! Can anyone recommend for or against a certain brand or type? I like the idea of the foam covered ones since I'm new to box jumps and expect much shin banging to start. I don't know if I need to get the wooden core or if the foam core is fine. I was thinking either the 16x18x20 or the next size up. I was advised against 12x14x16. Any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations are appreciated!

I do have one, but mine is just a wooden one.
I think I should have splurged on the foam covered ones. Ask my shins why LOL

I do have some thick long socks I would wear if I saw box jumps were on the whiteboard back in my Crossfit days.

Thanks, Rhonda. I have this fear of my feet flipping the box forward out from under me!

So I searched my Amazon orders and this is the one I got. I have the 16-18-20 inch one.

This one is pretty sturdy. Oh, I'm sure it could flip, but it unlikely. The one I have weights over 30lbs so its not light thing.

My problem was always not quite jumping high enough then scrapping shins down the box.

I have nothing to add except to cheer you on in this purchase!!

I had fun jumping on one that was foam covered at the gym! The key for me was stopping before I got too tired so I didn't miss and slip off. (Because I nearly did!)

Thanks for the link, Rhonda. I think that's what size I'll get. Yeah, the shin scraping is definitely one of my concerns!

Thanks, Linda! I have been looking for a while now, just too chicken to spend the money but workout 4 of the TTSL ebook has box jumps so I need to decide and order! I have heard that about fatigue being a big factor in missing the jump.

If you have a bosu or a step 360, you could do jumps on it, I find them fun and challenging, and you do not risk to hurt your shins. Just a though, if you are not going to use the plyo box often, maybe something to think about. And what is TTSL btw?

Thanks for the suggestion, ASAS. I do have a BOSU but those are very short and no challenge for jumping higher. But a few BOSU jumps might be a good way to warmup those muscles a little before taking on the box so thanks for that idea.

TTSL is Thick Thighs Save Lives. It's the name of a podcast and exercise programming put out by Constantly Varied Gear (CVG) who sell awesome leggings and other stuff. Here's the link if you're interested. https://www.constantlyvariedgear.com/

ONE OF US ONE OF US

LOL

I have so many pair of CVG leggings, capris and shorts. And I want them ALL

I also have the e-book and am going to probably do it in March. I need to get lighting fixtures changed out in my gym for jumpropes and box jumps before I do any of that.
