How do you feel about "personal" posts?

VF has been home for many of us for decades. It's not hard to want to share life's triumphs and tragedies here. An example I've seen here is the sad loss of a pet. I've posted when I've lost a pet and the kind and sympathetic replies help ease the pain.

I also posted when there was a tarantula in my house. VF was very active then. I received a lot of replies. (And, then I had to go catch the darn thing and take it outside.)

I don't mind personal posts about personal problems here. I can choose to read them or not. I do see where some folks do not like to see personal and/or off-topic posts.

Let's face it, VF is not so busy anymore that the occasional personal post is going to clog up the forum.

Anyway, how do YOU feel about VFers posting personal issues and problems?

How come you didn't give the option of "I LIKE personal posts."

I don’t mind personal posts. Occasionally the GD ones can be a bit TMI, lol, but I can chose not to read them so they don’t bother me.
There are a lot of personal posts in my checkins, which I enjoy as I consider my checkin mates friends.

I don't mind them. Some can feel a little TMI-ish, but I just don't read them. A lot of it depends on how well I know the person or whether I feel I can offer anything to the conversation.

I think personal posts a fine once in a while! I know the purpose of this forum is exercise related topics, but we are all supposed to be a friendly and helpful community and sometimes we just need a little off topic help or insight. When my mom died 2 years ago, everyone was so comforting and many of you were going thru similar situations. It really made me feel so comforted!

It is easier to answer if I feel I "know" someone. And it isn't always a question of asking for advice. More often, it's just trying to connect with folks when things go bad.

Exactly. We don't want to be fixed. We want to be heard. And people here are pretty good at hearing each other.

I believe it's because we're women. Men always want to fix things (no offense against the male species, it's just in their nature ) and (most) women just want to be heard and acknowledged, which we totally 'get' here at VF.
