Yoga/Meditation At The Library

My local library has been hosting a monthly yoga/meditation session as one of its adult activities. I've attended three times now and love it. It's nothing advanced or strenuous and there are folks of all fitness levels there. I love it because it gives me an opportunity to get through some quiet time without a cat walking all over me or the dogs barking at the Amazon delivery truck!

That's wonderful news. I work at two libraries, and I am going to suggest this. We do offer Chair Yoga once a week, but I think the meditation is a great idea. Please let your library know your thoughts. Libraries rely on statistics and feedback (both good and bad) in regard to programs to determine what the patrons like and don't like. If a program is a success, they want to continue to offer it. If it's not, they don't want to spend the taxpayer's money on programs where there is no interest.

Annette, great that you were able to find that class!

A few years ago, I contacted my local library about a book I had returned that had not been marked returned. My email signature mentioned being a yoga teacher, and when the library director responded to me, he asked if I would be interested in teaching classes at the library. I basically said I'd love to talk to him about this - and then I never heard back from him! (This was well before covid.)

I've offered free classes in the past. My local library doesn't have a budget for paying me.

that is a cool idea. I'm a huge library customer and meditation and yoga would work well in the library. both of my 2 favorite libraries (actually, all of the libraries on this island) have a separate multi-purpose room.

one of the 2 libraries has a tai chi class. i walked in one day and could hear someone's voice giving cues and i knew it was tai chi when i passed by.

Beth I would suggest reaching out to the Adult Services Manager or Program librarian. I think they would be thrilled to have you do programs.

Mary, I have thought about reaching back out. It was the Director of the library who had contacted me. So I figured that maybe he changed his mind and didn't pursue. I think it would be a good volunteer opportunity for the future - maybe after my retirement.

I wish my library had those things.

Our city Parks and Rec has meditation and yoga classes. They aren't free but are very affordable.
