A Jane Fonda Step (teal with pink and grey risers).
I've graduated to a Club Step but still use the Jane Fonda step for portability.

I won FIRM Vol 3 in an online contest... I bought a pair of 3 lb dumbbells and a 12" tall Rubbermaid tub that I used as a high step. Now I think how unsafe it was, climbing on that tub, but I used it for years and it never did collapse or anything. My first "real" gadget was the Fanny Lifter that replaced that tub.

Hmmm......I can't remember which was first. Either my Brenda Dykgraaf step, my Tony Little Ab Isolator or my Suzanne Somers Thighmaster.

Fun thread!

3 pound weights - blue plastic filled with sand - and I still have them. They were closely followed by a pink exercise band that came with a VHS workout produced by Nautilus with a very young Tamilee Webb in it. It was a circle band and really did look just like a big rubber band. It fell apart years ago now.

I'm going to take "gadget" to mean equipment, and say that the first thing I bought for myself related to fitness was a yoga mat, followed shortly by an exercise ball for pilates.

Though perhaps my Fluidity barre counts as more of a gadget? That was a post-VF purchase though.

The original STEP w/purple, aqua, pink risers. That was probably like 15 years ago & although I don't really do step anymore, I still have it! Will probably never get rid of it -- I've used it as a regular step, slanted or flat as a weight bench (before I got a real one a couple years ago), aid for push ups, whatever...

Oh, and a set of Denise Austin hand weights (2, 4 & 5#s i think) that came with a white plastic stand.

I'm not sure the Mark Eden Bust Developer counts as an exercise gadget, but I bought one when the Weider 5 Minute Body Shaper didn't do so much for my bust, and didn't make me look like Betty Weider. Sadly, neither did the Mark Eden Bust Devloper!! (It was two plastic paddles for your hands with a strong spring in between and you pushed them together.) Isometric exercise at its finest!
