Question Video Suggestions for Grandpa

Hi Everyone,

Any recomendations on an easy program that would allow an older man with a sedentary lifestyle to start out by working out in his chair, in front of the TV?

I caught the Body Flex comercial today and was thinking that it might be something to get my overweight 73 year old Grandfather moving a little more. I read the posts concerning Body Flex and if it is that absurd, then I'm even more glad I checked with VF readers.

Now, he's not going to ever be gung ho about excercise, so this really does need to start him out by moving while in front of his TV.

I really appreciate suggestions.

Karen Voight has a nice tape called Ease Into Fitness for just such a situation. Also Leslie Sansone has Walk & Firm for Older Adults.

"Sit and Be Fit" has many different videos available that could meet his needs.

My mother uses the one for MS, and says it has really helped her keep some mobility.

They are available at Collage (or see if her show is on your local PBS station)

it so happens...

I researched this pretty extensively several months back for my Uncle Bert. I got

Margaret Richard's 50 plus - done in conjunction w/the National Institute on Aging. Bert really liked her, she has great form, and they'll send you a free guide to go with the video if you call an 800 number - the video's available at collagevideo.com - and I think it was only $15 plus s&h.

the Karen Voight tape - Ease into Fitness(?), was a bit much, and required alot of equipment.

I liked the Richard Simmon's cardio one, but U.Bert wasn't so crazy about it.

Take a look at Collage's specialty video section, but the Margaret Richards was great.

I bought Leslie Sansone's Walk the Walk for my grandparents. It's a one-mile walk to hymns/spiritual songs. They love & do it almost every day. It was a great alternative to them walking in the winter in WI. They have it at Target & on Overstock.com for abt. $10.

Good luck & let us know how it turns out!
