Yard workout?

Does anyone else count yard work as their workout for the day? I know it’s not up there with Shovel Max, but I cut some small trees down today and I’m calling it a day (probably eaten up with poison ivy, too).

I do when I'm going to be at it for a few hours. I worked in the yard for about three hours on Wednesday, so I skipped a workout that morning in order to have the energy I needed.

Did you use a chain saw or hand saw to cut the trees? Either way, it's a big job!

Yep, it’s functional fitness!

Yes, and I agree with Pam. Some days I am out there up to 5 hours; especially in the spring and fall with leaves etc. On days like that if I feel exhausted I will add yoga or stretching at the end of the day.

I don’t because my goal is to do a DVD workout every day regardless. While I know that I get exercise walking the dogs and shoveling snow and raking leaves, I consider it just a part of my daily life. I do know that shoveling snow and raking leaves are tougher than my regular workouts, especially raking leaves. The only time I might skip a DVD workout is when I mow the cemetery. That takes 8 hours and wears me out.

I purchased a hand saw to cut them. Otherwise, I’d still be out there.

I have more work to do today! I like the idea of doing a shorts stretch or gentle yoga afterwards…

Gams - you are amazing! 8 hours would wipe me out, too!

Whenever I have a big physical chore to do, I fit it into whatever rotation I'm doing. Exercise is a lot more fun but sometimes things just have to be done.

I do. A lot of gardening requires squatting, up and down off ground, digging... I consider it a total body workout.

I can see this logic. Where as I don’t do DVDS everyday I do a workout everyday. I guess I would say after hours of yard work and I am pooped I will do yoga or stretching. But if I have energy I will walk or ride my bike. I guess it is more that if I do hours of yard work I don’t beat myself up if I don’t do a regular workout on top of it.
