Barefoot & On The Mat: February 2023: Slip off your shoes and join us!

Welcome to our monthly Barefoot & On The Mat check-in! This is a long-running VF check-in. We're a friendly, supportive group who enjoy a wide variety of workouts, but we have a special fondness for those traditionally done without shoes. If you enjoy yoga, pilates, barre, qi gong, Classical Stretch/Essentrics, weight lifting etc. (or even if you simply prefer doing traditional workouts without shoes!) you'll feel right at home. It's absolutely fine if you wear shoes while working out too.

Please feel free to join in. We love hearing from new, returning and guest Mat Mavens. Our welcome mat is always out!

February is usually my least favorite month, but this January was so dark and dreary, so hopefully February is better.

Carolyn, I think it's neat that your DH practiced yoga before he met you. I also like that you and your DH sometimes exercise together doing yoga or going on a bike ride.

Hi Beth!

Good morning everyone! I had a terrible night if insomnia, freaking out legs and foot cramps. That's very unusual for me since I began taking CBD, I hope it was a freak incident. Anyway:

~ An old Body Electric
~ Kassandra's Yin Yoga Without Props
~ 4,802 steps

I loved the yin practice but will incorporate a block next time.

Thanks for starting us Paine, I almost posted in last month's discussion.

Beth, I have to say March is my least favorite month. Long and usually bitterly cold and windy.

Safe travels Pam!

Good morning to all!

Paine, I forgot to thank you both for starting us and for the reminder!

Pat, I agree that March is pretty sucky too. (DH and I always make a joke from The Simpsons, "Lousy Smarch weather.") But, at least you sometimes get a taste of spring.

ETA: Pam, safe travels; enjoy!!!

Hello!

Paine, thanks for starting us off this month.

Unfortunately I tweaked my back yesterday. I was trying to lift something heavy and awkwardly shaped, and got a low back spasm. This morning it didn't feel *too* bad so I thought I would try my Wednesday morning yoga class at my gym. However, while doing gentle stretching prior to the class I managed to make the spasm worse, so I made my apologies and left before the class started. Probably just as well -- I got my taxes done, and a delivery I wasn't expecting until later came early.

Will try a little walking later, along some gentle stretching. I really like Lee Holden's Qi Gong For Lower Back Pain when my back gets cranky.

Waving to all!

Today I did Lee Holden's Qigong for Better Breathing. Also David-Dorian Ross' Tai Chi for Over 60. Back, biceps, and wrist therapy will get done when my headache goes away.

Sandra, sorry to hear you tweaked your back. Take care.

Safe travels to Pam.

Happy February! Hoping for more sunshine as the gray and dreary weather is getting old.

I've decided February will be "Join the Resistance!" month with a goal of doing some sort of resistance work every day, as I've really neglected that aspect of working out. Today was back.

Must run - it's late and I need to wind down and hit the sack.

Waves to ALL!

Pam, enjoy your vacation in Hawaii! You'll have to let us know which island you went to.

Sandra, sorry to hear that you tweaked your back. It was best that you skipped the yoga class. I hope your back feels better today.
