I think I get the purpose of them, to add to functional moves for picking things up and using them as markers, and my guess is she used these so people did not feel like they need to buy yet another piece of equipment, but I'm thinking I might use little sand bags or something, which of course I would need to buy

Ah, thank you.

I'm very excited about this series, despite all the doom and gloom on VF about them.

Oh I'm not trying to be gloom and doom, sorry if it came off that way.

And I guess I opened myself up to the jokes, lol.

But really ..... give me a definition, if there is one.

I don't mean you, Rose, or anyone else in particular. There is just always a lot of negativity surrounding Cathe on VF. I think it is a result of some really negative experiences people have had with CS, her forum... I don't know. Maybe it's a backlash against some of her more rabid fans...

Anyway, I think it will be an interesting series and I'm really looking forward to it.

I think the very fact that she's even thinking about joint issues is an improvement. She never paid much attention to the issue before.

I wonder what the official definition of "joint friendly" is, or if it only means what Cathe says it means (not being snotty). That's going to differ for everyone, right? There is no universal move that is JF for everyone, is there? So if there is a JF premix, it might not be JF for everyone. For example, the same person who can handle high impact might not be comfortable doing tricep extensions. Or are there certain moves that are contraindicated for everyone (in which case, why is this series that revolutionary)?

I'm overthinking it, I'm sure. But I guess seeing JF in so many descriptions makes me wonder what makes something JF.
I know what you mean. I think what's supposed to be "revolutionary" is the concept of the JF premix in which something like a forward lunge will be replaced with a backward lunge, which is, for most, easier to execute. I do think it's a pretty cool idea. I don't have joint problems (yet), but I can see using a JF premix from time to time.

The question of the definition of "joint friendly" is interesting, though. I suppose it depends on the person (and the joint). Aren't there exercises that are sort of accepted as being easier on the joints than an alternative? Pardon my ignorance; I am by no means an expert.

Since this is being marketed as 'joint friendlier' ("more joint friendly") and not 'joint friendly,' I suppose it could mean friendlier to the joints than Cathe's usual workouts, which could be like a vegetarian chili I once bought that was 'reduced fat,' but still was about 45% of calories from fat, because the regular version was about 60% of calories from fat.

You beat me to it!

(So one could use a couple of roaches rather than Dixie cups for the lunge-reach moves? )
