I've logged my workouts faithfully for the past 4 years. I use an Excel Spreadsheet and it's pretty basic, but works for me. I have recently uploaded it to Google Docs, so now, no matter where I am, I can log a workout if I forget.
I find it handy to look for trends. Do I tend to gain weight with certain workouts, etc (I log date, workout, calories burned if I'm on an HRM kick, steps from my Fitbit, weight...). I was recently able to confirm that there was one day while I was home sick that I took the fewest steps in 3 years. That was interesting.
