I definitely think purging in stages works best for me.So I always recommend a staging or purgatory area first. Let the idea of it being gone settle for a bit. You're the boss of you so figure out how long it would take. Most stuff I set aside for about a month, bigger items usually simmer longer . Honestly, most of the time I start to add something else when I remove the items that are there because I'm so ready to have them leave )
Then when you return to the area they formerly occupied you can register how it feels. Are you relieved? Do you even notice?
I will also say that my fitness equipment usually gets repurposed for other exercises. Currently using my Danskin weighted balls to work out muscle soreness in my quads and very happy I didn't purge them.
