It's on mine and I have not updated my phone in ages. I'm not sure how i feel about it. If they can install the app without me knowing...I'm sure they can activate it without me knowing too.

It’s on my iPhone, but it hasn’t been activated (because I haven’t turned it on!).

It's on mine too, although not activated. Modern technology is both a wonder and a curse.

How weird, it is on my phone but not on DH's phone. Not a fan of this tracking stuff.

So I guess Android doesn't care about us

In all seriousness, that is pretty creepy.

ETA: Nevermind, it appears that Android users can also expect to see a creepy app on their phone. I'm going to check mine. My phone is 9 years old (maybe 10?) so doubt I'm even getting proper updates anymore.

Mine is an Android and I think it's been on mine a couple weeks.

This is just a setting so you can turn it off or on when it becomes available. You have to download an app to enable this. But really, why wouldn't you want to? The data is anonymous and voluntary, and the life you save could be your own.

I don't think any of the states have it available yet, though some other countries have.

I just looked at it and found it as Nancy describes. It didn't download some random app, it added a setting (defaulted off) that could be used by an app if you had one. Mine says I cannot turn it on because I don't have any app that uses it. Your iPhone already has the ability to share data with nearby phones (via Airplay, which you can also turn on or off) - this new setting gives you specific control over the particular type of data that apparently might be used by contact tracing apps. I don't see anything creepy about this.

I guess what I was looking for is some sort of notice that this has been added in settings. It's not a huge deal for me as it's not some kind of automatically downloaded app that was put on my phone without my knowledge. Apple already tracks a whole lot of things anyway but I would like to be able to consent.
