There is another Gilad step workout called Step and Tone with light hand weights. There's the original Kathy Smith Step Workout (different from her Great Buns and Thighs). There's a Gin Miller one called Everybody Steps. There is also the Debra Mazda Let's Get Stepping. Finally, there are a couple of Cathe ones that are meant to be lower intensity and are slower. They are Basic Step and Body Fusion and also Low Impact Step.

I'd forgotten about Body Bar Strong Step. I do remember feeling it didn't have enough cooldown before going into the strength work, but that was easy to correct on my own. Otherwise a nice basic routine and short enough to be useful for someone like me who tends to do a few different things for a workout.

In addition to Keli Roberts and Kathy Smith (did all instructors in the 90s have names starting with K?), my favorites are: Gin Miller Best of Step TV https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73_8eaQV9o0 Gin Miller Aerostep https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExKZWya6jfU Kendell Hogan Crunch The Next Step https://youtu.be/QOaxvyKBeTQ Petra Kolber had some fun workouts on FitTV that I taped and wish I had hung onto. They were more doable for me than her official workouts.

I've been a vidiot for 20+ years and have owned a step for donkey's years but mostly used it as a weight bench till recently when I needed to jazz up my home cardio options for rainy/dark winter days (so as to get more steps in while stuck working from home and just driving kids around instead of being able to walk around more). I didn't even realize the BPM thing was something to consider as I have been using "old school" routines to learn and practice stepping, namely:
Gilad - Step Aerobics Kathy Kaehler - Basics Workout Class (Step) Kathy Smith - Step Workout (I do agree with a VF reviewer that there's a bit too much arm flailing in this so I sometimes just simplify/do my own thing) Gin Miller - Step Reebok the Video And this morning, inspired by this thread, I tried Gin Miller's Simply Step on her awesome YouTube channel! It's an hour long, and around 45-50 minutes in, when she started teaching a move that could be weaved into a combo that involved my back facing the screen, my brain went kablooie! Also, I was such a sweaty mess, it was no wonder I was still able to keep up with most of what was going on in my first time stepping through it. I think my floor and step aerobics attention span is around 45 minutes as when things run till 50 or 55 mins, I inevitably start to miss some steps and/or wish the last few minutes would wrap up more quickly What other "classic" routines would you recommend now that I'm starting to conquer more on a step? I use two risers (so 8 inches) for all of these routines so definitely don't see myself going any faster on the BPM front... |

These two Firm workouts from the BSS1 6-pack might be worth a look. they use the FL, but a club step will be just as good. you can even go with just the top/topper for a 4" height.
The choreo is simple enough and pace is moderate. it includes light weights for 4-limb, but you can do it without weights. Aerostep was my all time favorite step workout. I used to do it every-other day for a couple of years! I also miss the old crunch videos. They were so much fun! |
