Alison - Now that I've finished my whining (above), your week off in Florida sounds fantastic! And well-earned. Sorry you had to come back to the endless cycle of snow-ice-slush-melt-refreeze. We've had such mild winters that I had forgotten what it's like trying to get out and run or walk no snow and ice.

Vannie - Way to go with all the yoga and walking. I hope you enjoyed Ghostbusters. My comment about your Halloween decorations clean-up was meant to be good-hearted. (I'm worried it came across in a mean girls way.) TBH, I'm ridiculous to the other extreme, in fact, the right word is probably "lazy." I haul out only the most minimal decorations for all holidays. Lights, a wreath, a tree, stockings and a few decorations from my kids' craftsy years. This year we put lights on the Christmas tree but I never got around to hanging ornaments. So I salute and admire your love of holidays.

Me - I did another coastal row this morning and it was SO fun. That is all.

No worries, Daphne, that's exactly how I took it! I'm embarrassed it took this long to get the Halloween tubs stored. It was understandable that I left them till I got home from AZ but that was well over a month ago!

Daphne: I’m with you—I have no desire to retire to Florida year-round. I can’t take the DC humidity, so summers in FL would not be for me. My BIL and SIL winter in Lake Worth, FL and summer in Frederick, and they stay very active, but I know that’s not as common. I’m also in the same boat of not wanting to retire where Mark wants to, which is southwest VA.

I’m still in a workout funk, but I did play Just Dance with Megan yesterday, so at least I did something. I’ve done nothing today—I’m still in my PJs at lunchtime.

I had a bad headache today and was tired so I took a long nap. We did do all 3 walks and I did an episode of Happy Yoga With Sarah Starr.

Do you guys want to go back to monthly threads since we're posting a little more now? Just wondering.

Alison - SW Virginia would not be my choice for retirement either! I loved visiting my kids at Va Tech while they were there and the region is gorgeous and growing but year-round? Yeah, no.

Vannie - Headaches are the worst.

Me - I am making progress on my January challenge but it's becoming pretty clear that I'm not going to hit all my goals for the month.
  1. I'm not going to hit 100 miles of walk and/or run. I'm only at 55 miles total today with just 9 days remaining. The spirit is willing but the hip/hamstring is not enthusiastic.
  2. And 4 strength goals per week didn't work out either, although I could do some creative accounting and claim victory. It's definitely a mental victory because I'm looking forward to strength training for the first time in a long time and excited about the changes I'm feeling.
  3. OTOH, I am on track to overshoot my rowing goals and same with bike miles.
And the most important thing is it's gotten me off the couch and moving all but one day this month, even if only at the most minimal level.

It's Saturday, my workouts are done and I've got errands to run and my lunch is not going to fix itself. Later gators!

Makes little difference to me. Just OCD me is twitchy that we're still using the fall thread!

Friday I did another Happy Yoga episode. Even though I had planned more I still count it as a win bc we went up north to my father-in-law's when hubby got home from work and usually on those days I do nothing but spend time with Cyric since he can't go with us. So easy yoga and vacuuming was more than I usually do before going up! I forgot to do any type of workout on Saturday so my streak is broken but I won't beat myself up, I'll just start again. I went to the thrift store and scored the best deal, ten bucks for a barbell with 60# of plates on it and a dumbbell with small plates on it! I was beyond excited!! (Still am of course.) We came home yesterday and I spent the evening petting Cyric (splurged and had him groomed at the kennel so he's all soft and clean smelling) and watching TV with hubby. Back on my game today!

Hey, guys! I haven't used my new barbell yet but I'm looking forward to it! I'm still trying to figure out how to schedule myself so I can do the things I want but in a way that isn't overwhelming and dread-inducing.

Monday I did day 6 of the Human 2.0 and Lauren squat challenges and a Caroline Jordan hamstring workout. Then I did my pre-run calf and knee workouts from YouTube, 2.066 mi for 10k trainer wk1 day3 on the treadmill using VA Wild California Run for scenery and Zombies Run S3M48 for motivation (distraction? ), Helen Clare's piriformis workout and Yoga for Runners post-run practice. Yesterday was a wind chill warning so I put off our first walk till about 1:00 and had a terrible time overcoming slugdom all day as a result. I wasted so much time on YouTube! Around 4:30 I finally convinced myself to do a 20 minute Leslie walk and the flexibility and relaxation segment of 10MS Yoga. Another wind chill warning this morning but I'm determined not to repeat yesterday's lack of self-discipline!
