I experience significant pain in my right hip, as you described on your left, when I perform certain exercises or run on canted or hilly terrain. I wanted to try barre exercise last summer, to change things up, but quickly discovered that barre and ballet workouts were quite painful.
You may have a similar skeletal/structural issue as me; Femoral Anteversion. I found this article immensely helpful. http://www.ericcressey.com/hip-antev...oning-programs What works for me is heavy weight work, with absolutely no turn-out, and Pilates. I've also added in, on alternate days, Allaire Back Fitness. The focus on slow, controlled strengthening movements for my back, core, glutes have been useful to maintain strength in an area that will always be chronically weak. |

Yaya,
I'll just add one more thing. In my case, due to my chronically weak hip flexor, I also have a chronically weak right VMO, the portion of the quadricep above my knee. Here is another Eric Cressey article you may find useful. http://www.ericcressey.com/fixing-th...ks-in-athletes I also take special care to not over stretch my hip flexor. |
