Tried ADFW today
Verdict: a fast, fun workout - intermediate with some advanced moves. What makes it intermediate level is that no move is done for very long. This might be a bit of a problem during the weight training segments -- not a lot of reps, usually about 6 per side (though you do a cycle twice).
After a quick warmup, there is an ab workout. You do a cycle of five moves and repeat. The moves I can recall are: crunch, hip lifts (for lower abs), leg circles, planks and "superman" (but with upper body only). This was less than 10 minutes. Then there is a section (I forgot the name) where you do standing torso twists with a weight; the move where you reach up over one shoulder, then bend down to the opposite foot with the weight; pushups plus side planks; supermans with both arms and legs lifting; weighted crunches (dumbbell between your knees). This was maybe 10 minutes. Cardio: You do interval moves of 30, 45, 60 and 90 seconds, then 60, 45 and 30 again, interspersed with minute-long "low" ends of jogging. Cardio moves included fast squats, squat jacks, jacks and cross-country skis (these make up the total of 90 seconds), high knees, plyo plies and jogs that really emphasize pushing off each leg. Overall about 15 minutes. Strength: Deep squat to the right, then draw right leg into a standing knee up. Everything is about six reps. Repeat on left leg. Back lunge with upright rows on each leg. Split stance, six lateral rows; change leg stance while continuing lat rows. Tricep kickbacks with more weight on one leg; repeat on other side. Forward lunge plus military press on each leg. Bicep curls standing one on leg while extending other leg forward. Switch. Repeat whole cycle. Strength section about 15 minutes. Pilates: Less than 10 minutes. Straight-leg roll-ups, bicycles, "swimming", double-leg circles to work lower abs, "supermans" while twisting torso to one side, and a tough move - planks on your toes and palms while lifting alternating leg and arm. I was wobbly! I'm sorry, but I skipped the yoga section as I was tight on time - though it was no more than 5 minutes Jessica Smith was a very good instructor. She seemed to have to kill time during the jogs during the cardio intervals and had to mouth some platitudes about burning fat, endorphins etc. She has two backgrounders, one showing modifications. The set is the same as for all the Prevention workouts. Chris Freytag even does an intro. The music is pretty good. There were songs with vocals in the indie-rock style and guitar rock instrumental reminiscent of P90X. It was not the standard canned Muzak. I found myself wishing each section was a little longer. There were surprisingly fairly advanced moves (like the full planks with raising alternating leg and arm), high knee jogs, plyo plies. For an advanced exerciser everything was almost too short, like eating appetizers when you want full courses. But not bad for a short-on-time day or light day. I liked Jessica, the music and the moves.
