Beginner Barre?

What is a good beginner barre workout? Either DVD or You Tube? I'm trying to get back into barre again after a long layoff.

Not that I do barre much anymore, but I found Suzanne Bowen good to start with.

I have asked this question before, and the responses I received most were the old Lotte Berks, Barre 3, Suzanne Bowen workouts, and the Bar Method workouts, specifically the ones with Burr Leonard.

I like The Bar Method for its slow methodical approach, and the Burr Leonard ones would be the place for a beginner to start. The Fluidity DVDs - the ones that came with the barre - are also good and might be available for trade. I'm currently cycling back to the old Exhale Core Fusion DVDs, and they could also be a good place to start because they have lovely short 10-minute segments, and the instruction is good.

Leah Sarago has short segments on her streaming site that are beginning barre. I find them challenging even though they’re “beginner” and they’re broken into segments for abs, thighs, upper body.

I really like Suzanne Bowen's Flat Belly Barre. I've been doing it for a few months as a postpartum workout. It's a nice pace, nothing too crazy, but surprisingly effective. She has three levels for each exercise and I still get a nice workout from following the beginner or intermediate level (I hardly ever follow the advanced exerciser). It's kind of a sneaky workout, it looks easier than it is, and like a lot of things you get what you put into it. I've had nice slimming results (especially my thighs) just focusing on form.

Ditto on the Flat Belly Barre DVD from Suzanne. I like it very much.

Barre3's streaming stuff doesn't feel as much like barre to me - it certainly has barre elements, but it feels to me more like a fusion workout. Barre3's old DVDs felt more like traditional barre.

Bar Method is also very good.

The Bar Method Change Your Body has excellent form pointers. Also Cardio Barre has four workouts: Intro, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

I was going to say Suzanne Bowen flat belly barre as well -it's got 3 workouts and she had 3 levels (beg/int/adv) demonstrated for each workout. The original bar methods are on ebay cheap. But Suzanne gets the workout done in 30 min v. the longer original bar methods.

Exhale also has a "Barre Basics for beginners" DVD that has extra instruction as a separate chapter, plus segments from their previously released workouts.

i learned barre from Callanetics - the original 10/10 workout. it goes slowly and Callan has many cast members at different levels, men and women. she has a 30-min beginners DVD too.
