September 20 - 20 Different Instructors and/or Virgins, Ancient Dustbunnies

Hi! This is a continuation from Karla's "20 Days / 20 Instructors". Some of us enjoyed it so much we're continuing for a new month (or just 20 days if you're so inclined!)

Day 1 - Joy Bauer's Slimdown Workout. Virgin workout, virgin instructor. Not bad, but I have similar workouts to this one that are better, so off to the trade pile it goes.

T2B 09-02-21 12:28 PM

bubbles - I hope you’re safe from Ida yesterday/last night! I can’t imagine how scary it was for the people caught up in those storms.

Thanks for starting a new thread.

Yesterday was LITE: Metabolic Blast.

Today is a recovery day so I did P30 FLOW Mobility Basics Stretch Timesaver, 20 mins + Flexibility & Strength Warm-up. I like the flowy warm-up in the Flexibility workout. The timesaver mobility workout is kind of choppy though. I thought I would sleep in, because I was so tired yesterday, but I woke up at my usual time feeling good.

Any recommendations for flowy type stretching?

This month I’ll focus on my dance workouts to get through some virgins/dust bunnies and boost my daily step count.

bubbles76 09-02-21 07:37 PM

Flowy stretching? I'll have to think on that one. I tend to use yoga instead of stretching so I can get some strength and stretching at the same time. I can give some yoga suggestions though :)

Day 2 - Hi Lo Fusion with Rob Glick. Not a complete virgin workout, but I'm pretty sure I didn't get through 15 minutes of this the first time through. I got frustrated with the fancy turns and the space hog nature of it. It's still a space hog but I adapted and took out most of the turns. It was a fun workout that flew by after that. Still I have so many Rob Glick workouts that this one may still stay in the trade bin.

Hi! I'd like to join in for September. I've got quite a few ancient dustbunny dvd's that I keep telling myself I'll get going on. The check in will be a very nice and fun motivator!

T2B 09-03-21 02:32 PM

3. LIS: Athletic Training (dust bunny). The music is better than the music in Afterburn, for sure. After the warm up, the cardio burst on the step was very challenging. Basic but intense, and I wasn’t using a 10” step like Cathe & crew either. I used an 8” step and wanted to lower it but stopping was not an option. I was sweating like a soaker hose! :) Good stuff!

bubbles - yoga recommendations will work too! :)

Hi Vantreesta

Catahoula Cate - welcome! :)

Same here! I'd like to join too, I'm finishing my current rotation tomorrow, and I've got some virgin and dust bunny DVDs that I would love to do this month.

bubbles76 09-03-21 11:23 PM

T2B, the first stretchy yoga that comes to mind is Mark Laham's Yin Yoga. I also really like Zoe Bray Cotton Yoga Burn Monthly Restorative Yoga set. I believe you can get this one outside of the whole six dvd set. It goes by two different names I believe. Nice stretchy yoga.

Welcome Sugar and Cate!

Vannie you've got some goodies on that list. Better get cracking. :)

Day 3 - Dana Pieper's Everybody Fitness Total Body Conditioning - virgin workout, not virgin instructor. This was a fine workout, but a little long for me at 69 minutes. It felt longer. I don't think I got enough strength out of this. May be going to the trade pile, as I'm pretty sure I won't reach for it (although it's a fine workout). I like her other two dvds a lot more.

Catahoula Cate 09-04-21 11:47 AM

Thanks for the welcome! :sun:

Started off Day One with a youtube clip from Upright Health, instructor Matt Shu. Not a dust bunny but a channel I've rekindled an interest in and finding some good content. This one was on posture with some tips about what doesn't work and what does.

Great list Vannie! I would be very interested to know what you think of the Jennifer Kries one targeting the hips.

I'm pulling all my dust bunny dvd's out to remind myself which ones have been sitting there the longest. I hope to make a dent in them this month.

T2B 09-04-21 12:48 PM

Bubbles - thanks for the recs!

ASAS - welcome!

4. LITE: Cardio Party (Scrambled Calorie Crush Mish Mosh). Cardio Party Calorie Crush was a virgin. I had so much fun that I did the Calorie Crush & Stretch (19mins) again. Short, but fun, step!

AsSweetAsSugar 09-04-21 03:34 PM

Bubbles and T2B, thanks so much for the welcome!

ETA: T2B, I'd recommend Madeleine Lewis' AM & PM Stretch both routines are good, and both have a flowy warm up to prepare the muscles for the stretches, they are around 35 minutes each, I do any of them at any time of the day, it has been a while though, I will revisit them, I also love the power stretch which is 20 minute long, that one makes me sweat a bit.

AM & PM Stretch's preview.

Bonus Power Stretch's preview.

Catahoula Cate 09-05-21 08:36 AM

Day 2: Dust Bunny Lord of the Abs with Gilad. I got this years ago and it was too advanced for me, even with modifying the medicine ball with a lighter ball. Fast forward to now and it's still too advanced for me even though I've gotten stronger. I really like Gilad as an instructor though and think it's a well done video. But it will go to the thrift shop.

T2B 09-05-21 10:39 AM

5. BOSS LOOPS: Glutes & Core. Inspired by Vannie’s list, I also did Candlelight Yoga: 15 min Yoga Energizer Workout (virgin). With that title, I thought it would be a flowy, yoga workout. It is not. It was ok, not bad but 2 moves were way too advanced for me because I’m not flexible. There’s an ATG squat that was held way too long for my comfort, and a sitting on your heels move. I like Sarah so added Candlelight Yoga to my dust bunny, “to do” , pile.

ASAS - thanks for those links. I’ll check it out!

bubbles76 09-05-21 12:55 PM

Cate which Lord of the Abs dvds is this? I'm looking for Phenomenal Abs & Core and Hard Core. I'll send you postage or will trade if you've got either of these.

Day 4 - Rob Glick Power Body Strength Training - this is an ancient dust bunny. Tried it once years ago, and thought it was slow moving. Fast forward to now and I appreciate the pace a lot better! Modified a bit, as I can't do that many push ups in a row. Surprisingly, even with all the lunges and squats, my knees were not troubled. Must have been the slower pace and the fact that I kept it light (used 10 pounds throughout, but there were a lot of reps). This is a keeper! Woke up pleasantly sore, but no knee pain.

T2B 09-05-21 03:27 PM

P.M. Started Patricia Moreno’s Cardio Burn Dance - Dance Express. The + is that Deazie is in this workout. I couldn’t finish it though. The music is horrible and I really didn’t care for the workout. The dance routine is more jazz dance and it could have still been fun if the music wasn’t so bad. I started the Cardio Salsa routine and didn’t like that either. So next, went with Body Groove Delicious Dance - Bootylicious, 22 mins (virgin). Love, 5 stars, made me smile.

AsSweetAsSugar 09-05-21 04:08 PM

1.) A.M. & P.M. Stretch: A.M. Stretch (dust bunny). Since, I just finished my Killer Body rotation yesterday, I went with a full body stretch, as I am bit sore today, I think I will do stretch/mobility workouts for a few days as a recovery, before doing any strength or cardio.

Bubbles76 The one I have is Maximum Abs, heavy ball standing workout if you are interested. My biggest problem with it is that I have a shoulder blade that gets unstable on me(old injury)and the movements with the ball are not right for it.

ASAS love your tag line!

Vantreesta 09-06-21 11:24 AM

Had a good few days with my dad, just not long enough. I wasn't ready for him to leave. Saturday we spent 9 1/2 hours at the MN Ren Fest, most of it with friends, and yesterday we drove down to Des Moines for that fest. Yesterday was beastly hot from the moment we stepped out of the car at 10 AM. Today we're just bumming around. I wanted to go hiking but all the driving and the heat have drained us and feels good to be lazy. I can't get Cyric till this afternoon though and I miss him so much! I had booked the kennel a while back bc I assumed we would be going to my father-in-law's, but it did give us the freedom to stay at the fests longer (cancelling would have still cost me nights on the boarding package bc it was a holiday wknd).

I'm looking forward to getting myself back on track this week. Lots of good stuff has been happening the last couple weeks with camping and time with Dad and friends and everything but I am missing my routine and starting to feel ungrounded again. I'm also excited that I will be putting up my Halloween village this week! Huzzah!

AsSweetAsSugar 09-06-21 04:27 PM

2.) Pilates For Beginners with Kristin MacGee (dust bunny). I did the whole thing (60 minutes), I really like this one.

Cate, thanks!

Vantreesta, I am glad you had a great time with your dad!

T2B 09-07-21 06:14 PM

6. ICE: Low Impact Sweat + BODY GROOVE: Delicious Dance Flex & Stretch, 33 mins (virgin).

7. BOSS BANDS: Total Body Timesaver #1 + BODY GROOVE: House Party Workout #1. It was one of those long nights where I felt like I slept with one eye open all night. :asleep:

bubbles76 09-07-21 06:32 PM

Cate thanks for the offer. I have that one, but haven't tried it yet. I have some shoulder issues, so thanks for the heads up. I will have to be careful when I try it.

T2B, I think I had the same reaction to that Patricia workout years ago lol!

Vannie I have plans to go to the RenFaire in Tuxedo, NY hopefully this month and one in MD in November. I cannot wait! I don't know if we'll spend 9 hours at the faire, but chances are very good we will.

Day 5 - Did not work out Sunday, but Monday (Day 5) I completed Tom Holland's Total Body Workout - Workout 1. This was a dust bunny and a goody. Didn't realize how many squats and lunges were in this one, but no pain. I did substitute some goblet squats and deadlifts though.

Day 6 - Michelle Dozois Body Fit 360 Volume 3 Athletic Conditioning - this workout makes my knees ache. Yes, there are modifications, and I did most of the modifications, but if I have to modify so much, why bother with this workout. Plus she cues right.on.the.move which I just don't like. Ugh, this one may be going in the trade pile. I only did the 40 minute workout, didn't bother with the 20 minute one.

Vantreesta 09-07-21 11:07 PM

Day 1 9/7 Barry's Boot Camp Cindy Whitmarsh Mission Specialist Abs

I had forgotten how much I like Cindy. I'm pretty sure this was a virgin. I never inflated their "Transformer" oval shaped ball so just used my regular stability ball. I normally don't care for a lot of abs-only workouts but I liked this one.

AsSweetAsSugar 09-08-21 06:36 AM

Cate, how heavy is the medicine ball they use in the workout? Just curious, since in the preview he say to use a heavy ball or dumbbell, but he recommended 2-3 pounds db to start, but he never mentioned how heavy was his ball.

T2B, I didn't sleep much either

3.) Body Target BalanceBall: Upper Body (dust bunny). A nice gentle workout, but I still felt a little burn.

4.) Body Target BalanceBall: Abs (dust bunny). This one was quite challenging, and there was one move I couldn't do at all, so I stuck with the first version.

Catahoula Cate 09-08-21 10:33 AM

ASAS Gilad doesn't say how heavy the ball is. The preview does say a heavy ball or light dumbbell but when he get's started in the warm up, he refers to the ball they're using as a medicine ball. My impression is that medicine balls can vary greatly in weight. But I think a person could use whatever ball they want too...a soccer ball, basketball, etc.

I'm not doing a good job at getting many dust bunnies done recently. We've got some company for a few more days but I still might get one done today.

AsSweetAsSugar 09-08-21 04:18 PM

Cate, thanks for the feedback, I was hoping he would mention the weight he was using as a reference.// Enjoy your guests.

Vantreesta 09-08-21 05:31 PM

Well I ended up not working out today. :( I had to run errands and then just was honestly too excited to start my village! I had some cleanup to do and then set up my platforms, pulled out all the tubs of stuff and laid the ground cover out. Tmrw I will do smthg for a workout and then dig in to building!!

T2B 09-08-21 05:34 PM

bubbles - I rarely get rid of any of my workout DVDs but I seriously considered trashing that DVD. It went in my Goodwill pile.

ASAS - hope you got some sleep last night! !

During Mary’s Labor Day Sale, I bought:

Si6 Keep It Up (my Si6 series is complete)
Zero to Sixty Adrenaline Rush
2801 All Cardio Step
2802 All Cardio Latin Xplosion
2803 Tap-Less Step More
2804 Athletic Step Jam

So…not sure why I didn’t buy Greg’s last CIA series but now I have it! :) This is it! I’m not buying anymore workout DVDs. My library is complete! ;)

8. LITE: PHA2. No time to do anything else today! I wanted to try Latin Xplosion! And I wanted to hang with my BFF, Misty! No time! Work, work, work!

T2B 09-08-21 05:37 PM

Vantreesta,

You’ll have to share a snip of the completed village! :)Sounds intense and like a lot of work!!

Can you do a photo album if you're not a supporter?

AsSweetAsSugar 09-09-21 04:21 PM

5.) Body Target BalanceBall: Lower Body (dust bunny).

T2B, thanks! I slept better, but not too many hours. Hoping to catch some good long sleep tonight. What about you? Nice list! I recently got Athletic Step Jam, and it looks fun, I can't wait to try it out. I also liked the music on Tap Less Step More, but that one looked out of my ligue, so I didn't order it, I can't wait to hear your thoughts on that one.

Vantreesta, I saw your question on the other thread, but I didn't want to hijack, so I am replying here... I liked the set, and the clubz are nice to hold, and seem very well made, nice quality. The workouts are very challenging and have a high sweat factor. Some of the exercises reminded me Jillian Michaels' combination moves, but using the clubz instead of light dumbells, the recovery workouts are a workout, just less intense than the others, still you get a nice sweat going. They have a warm up but not cool down, also the workouts are set up as three blocks of 10 minutes or so, sometimes you see new people on the next block, so they weren't filmed on one go, it reminds me a bit of KettleWorX, but not choppy as the latter, and the exercises goes for time and not for reps. The calendar has 6 days a week (Cardio - Power - Recovery - Repeat - Off), every phase is done for two weeks. But, I just did them three times a week, and one week each phase, that way no dread for me and I could mix in other things in between. There are some high impact (like jumping lunges, burpees, one leg burpees), I sometimes did regular lunges when I didn't feel like jumping, and used my bosu for the burpees. There were some nice exercises that felt good on the shoulder (swimmers, and another where you pass the clubz behind the head while squatting). I did wish they included one or two DVD with traditional clubs training. HTH

I don’t know! Sorry!

Rest day today. Flexibility/mobility was on the schedule but I needed a complete day of rest. :)

bubbles76 09-09-21 08:25 PM

T2B I've done 2801 All Cardio Step, 2803 Tap-Less Step More, and some of 2804 Athletic Step Jam. They are all winners! I have 2802 All Cardio Latin Xplosion, but haven't tried it yet. Zero to Sixty Adrenaline Rush took two tries to warm up to.

Day 7- Gym Box Discount Workouts Beginning Strength Workout Volume 1 Workout 1 with Chrissy (I think?). Virgin workout and instructor, or at least I don't remember doing this workout. This was a good quick 29 minute strength workout. They didn't do triceps or much (if any?) inner thigh work. This was a higher rep workout with long sets. I liked it well enough, as long as I remember to add my own tricep and inner thigh work :)

Day 8 - Michelle Dozois BodyFit 360 Volume 4 - Ahhhh, I'm in love again! This is a virgin workout. I really like the first 360 workout and this one. The two in the middle are frustrating. This one was more dancey with good music. Flows nicely.

AsSweetAsSugar 09-09-21 08:55 PM

Bubbles, I didn't know there were 4 volumes of BodyFit 360! The first one is still on my wish list! Glad to hear you like Athletic Step Jam! Is Tap Less Step More hard to learn?

No worries! I've been at it since about 1:30, only taking breaks for supper and a short dog walk. All the buildings are finally up, now it's time to fill it with life! Err, I mean UNlife! :p :D

Vantreesta 09-09-21 11:29 PM

Bubbles, hope you enjoy the faires!

ASAS, thanks for the Clubz feedback and description! I'll keep it on my wish list and hope the price drops at some point. I was really hoping for traditional club work!

Vantreesta 09-09-21 11:30 PM

I can't find an option for a photo album so I am assuming you have to be a supporter.

ETA: I just did a test post at VF Roost on Tapatalk and was able to post a pic there of one of my new pieces.

https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/vfro...om_new_topic=1

T2B 09-10-21 06:41 PM

Bubbles - you’re really plowing through those workouts! I used to have those Body Fits in my cart but then after looking at a clip decided they were not for me. But… if the price is right I may revisit!

AsSweet - I hope to try my new workouts soon! No time this week though!

Vantreesta - I’m not on VF Roost. It sounds great though!

10. RWH: Low Impact HiiT Two. Got up too late to drink my coffee before my workout and it showed in my energy output. Still worked up a ridiculous amount of sweat. No time to do anything else today.

Vantreesta 09-10-21 07:06 PM

T2B, can't you look at VF Roost on Tapatalk without being a member, just like here?

No workout again. I finally finished the village around 4:30 then just sat back to enjoy. Now I can get back to workouts. :) There will still be another day or two of putting up the rest of the decorations but it won't be as intensive as the village.

ETA: Just posted the finished pics on Roost.

AsSweetAsSugar 09-10-21 07:20 PM

Rest day for me.

T2B, I will be waiting impatiently for your thoughts! :D

Vantreesta, you're welcome! ;) I saw the picture you posted on VF Roost, it is awesome, I hope you will post more! ETA: I saw the rest of the pictures, wow! Love it! Amazing village.

Waves to all! Have a nice weekend.
