Seeking Anxiety Relief
Over the last few months, I've developed a bit of an anxiety problem. I'm not having panic attacks or anything remotely like that. I just feel nervous, anxious. It kind of feels like I'm watching a suspense movie. I don't know exactly what is going on, but I have been going through a lot of stress lately. I'm going to talk about this with my doctor tomorrow, but I believe I can manage it without medication if I just focus on doing what's best for me.
Anyway, my question: What are your favorite anxiety relief videos? I guess I'm mostly interested in yoga. I am already walking for exercise and I'm going to start a strength component to my exercise routine starting tomorrow, but I would like to start using my yoga videos (or Youtube) to help with my anxiety. I have Barbara Benagh's Yoga for Stress Relief and just completed a 50-minute practice a few minutes ago. It helped! However, I'm hoping to find something a bit shorter (although Barbara's practices are pretty easy to shorten as needed). I also like Rodney Yee and have quite a few of his DVDs, but I'm open to other instructors. Thanks everybody! Donna |
I am a huge fan of yoga but I have actually found that Qi Gong is better at calming my mind. I love Lee Holden's 30 Day Challenge, which are only 6-8 minutes each. He has a YouTube channel as well if you wanted to try one out. Ten years ago I never dreamed I would even try Qi Gong, let alone like it. But then, that's how I felt about yoga like 30 years ago! :)
Anyway, I'm sorry you're dealing with so much stress. I'm glad it's not to the point of panic attacks bc those are definitely not fun.Wishing you the best! |
If you're open to considering qi gong, I highly recommend Lee Holden's Qi Gong for Anxiety: https://www.holdenqigong.com/product...g-for-anxiety/ . It is also available on Amazon.
How about some YT options? Can't beat the price and you can try different instructors to see who you click with - or not. All of these are under 30 minutes and most are under 20 minutes and several clock in closer to 10 minutes. I haven't done all of these videos, but have sampled videos from all of these instructors. Best of luck with your appointment tomorrow.:) |
Yin Yoga can be soothing. Have you tried any Yin Yoga? Here are a few to try:

Apologies in advance if this is not relevant to you, but....
2. (putting 1st): May I ask if this could be hormone-related? I had what seems like very similar experience in my late 40s (now 52). I am a naturally anxious person, but I was having bouts of anxiety that would come on spontaneously with no catalyst. HRT (estrogen + progesterone therapy) helped a ton with that. 1. In addition to the various videos recommended, have you tried meditation? I have a thousand recommendations. :) |
I know you requested yoga suggestions but walking helps me with anxiety. I listen to a book and between that and fresh air it really helps settle me down. Last November I had a really bad experience at work and I was so upset. I went home and put on my walking stuff and walked 4 miles. I cried the whole time and where it didn’t fix my feelings it really helped settle me. It gave me perspective on the situation.
I hope the yoga suggestions help you. |
I recently took a vacation from my vitamins/supplements to try to fix an annoying nerve issue. It had the unexpected effect of causing my anxiety to plummet to pre-pandemic levels.

My appointment is later today. Keeping fingers crossed that my doctor will have some helpful suggestions, too. Quote:

Donna -
I'm sorry your are dealing w/ anxiety! Aside from hormones, do you think it could be seasonal? Last spring, right when the clocks changed, I had a surge of anxiety that sounds very similar to yours - just a feeling of being very rev'd up. Also, if you have had an season of stress, I think it takes your body some time to come down from it - if that make sense. I generally find steady state cardio to be very calming - when I'm in turmoil I sometimes find yoga to make me more anxious - I know - weird, but I think it is the stillness whereas w/ the steady state the movement and rhythm help calm me - particularly long outdoor walks in nature. Basically, mindless cardio... Hope you feel better soon. (another) Donna |

I am considering meditation and I do have quite a few guided meditations included with several of my yoga DVDs, so I will probably start there. If you have one or two favorite methods, though, that would be great! (A thousand suggestions might stress me out, though!:p) Quote:
