Need help with Winsor Buns & Thighs

I have done this workout twice and both times I didn't really feel the exercises in my muscles as much as I did in the hip joint/socket. I'm pretty sure my form is good. I wonder if I'm supposed to be feeling it mainly on just that one spot on my hip. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by your hip socket.

I think you may be working muscles, just not your gluteus maximus.

The gluteus medius is located near your hip and lies under the gluteus maximus. It helps stabalize and pivot your hip joint. The gluteus minimus lies under the gluteus medius and works together with it. Both of these muscles also help to rotate your hip joint inwards, as when you knock your knees together.

These musles kind of wrap around your butt/hip area and can trim the sides of your butt. My guess is that your working these, which might be a new feeling. Could that be the case? Or is it joint discomfort, like you're working out of a typical range of motion?

Louise,
Check out this thread & see if maybe some of these comments might apply to you:
Weird hips
The exercises move quite fast in this workout. Maybe you need to slow down & only do half the reps? Really concentrate on a smaller range of motion, keeping the abs/core contracted as well as the muscles being worked. I think of Buns & Thighs as a precision toning type of work. It's different & will take some getting used to.
Have you been exercising long? Done much floorwork?

No, it's unfortunately not me. She's my somewhat blonder cyber alter-ego. The picture is so sunny and warm, that's why I picked it. And I think she looks tough. And I like surfing. One day I'll find a picture of me that I like enough to put up, but then I'd have to take hers down.

Thanks for your replies!

KayB - that post about weird hips is exactly what's going on - very similar. I am double-jointed in several joints and I suspect in my hips. I know this sounds weird but if I stand and push my hips out to one side a certain way I can actually move the bone out of position. I also hear a thunking sound like some of the other posters in that hip thread. So I probably just have a weird anatomy!

Hi Louise

it doesn't sound weird at all. My daughter laid in a transverse position when I was pregnant with her and she was born with a dislocated right hip. It was due to her position combined with her birth weight, which was over 11 lbs.. We went from Swedish hospital to Children's hospital where she was fitted with a hip brace. She wore that for the first 5 months of her little life.

She's soon to be 19 years old and she is able to do the same exact thing that you do with your hip and she has the same popping sound.

My sisters are also able to move their hips out - mine I can only do a little bit, they much more.

I didn't think this was what was going on while doing Winsor Bun and Thigh (because I'm laying on my side) - but it is in the same spot so who knows I might be putting my hips out of alignment.
