IS there a restarters check-in?

I am a restarter after 4 years of not doing any formal exercise, and I am struggling. I never quite know how hard to push myself so that I'm challenged, but not overdoing it. I have some injuries that I'm coping with, a bad back and foot pain.

I started with Pilates because it's mostly done on the floor. That has gone well, and I've gotten stronger without pain.

I tried adding in some very light weight lifting and some body weight squats and lunges and it did not go well. I developed back problems. i don't know if it was my form or something else.

I have been pedaling a stationary bicycle for cardio, it's okay, but not my favorite.

The reason I'd like a check in is to ask if others are dealing with similar issues, and to answer questions about what would be the best approach to weight lifting. Just to add that I don't do deadlifts or anything that might strain my back or neck.

All this has made it hard to be consistent because I always worried about doing too much.

Thanks for bearing with me on this.

I'm restarting after surgery. I'd join such a checkin.

Hi Jane! It's great to see you! I hope you can get a group of re-starters together.

The every day in....is still going although I feel like an imposter at the moment. You're more than welcome there.

many of the existing check-ins have tons of restarters. i would check those out as well - they have been around a very long time.

Some of us seem to restart every other week!

Hey, I hear ya!

I had been walking outdoors for my restart and that was going well, but then the weather got too hot and humid and now my indoor workouts are not going so well. I tried restarting with Jessica Smith's Six Week Transformation program, but it's on-again/off-again. Mostly, I think the reason (besides my ongoing COVID depression/lack of motivation) is that it's too difficult for me at this point in my fitness journey. I get tired of getting overly tired and stopping the video to rest/restarting it, then stopping it again. It's been going that way a lot lately!

I need to just decide on some easier/shorter workouts that I can do regularly, without feeling like a failure. And then gradually progress to harder/longer workouts.

Long story short: I'm in!
