Getting to Know You: The Summer Edition

It's Memorial DAy weekend in the U.S., the unofficial start to summer in this country. So, I thought it might be fun to do a version of "Getting to Know You" focused on that topic. So, feel free to answer any of the questions below and get to know your fellow VFers:

1. What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?

2. Do you change anything about your workouts in the summer? What?

3. What is your favorite activity to do on vacation?

4. If you could choose only one vacation destination where would you pick and why?

5. Be an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in?

6. What was the best fireworks show you ever saw or experienced?

1. What is your favorite thing to do in the summer?

Walk outside on a beautiful summer day - warm, not hot, with sunshine and balmy breezes.

2. Do you change anything about your workouts in the summer? What?

I don't supplement my workouts by walking at lunch due to the heat that usually happens.

3. What is your favorite activity to do on vacation?

Go somewhere historical and/or beautiful to see it.

4. If you could choose only one vacation destination where would you pick and why?

New Zealand. I saw Lord of the Rings! I would stop watching the action periodically and look at the breath taking scenery and think, "I GOTTA GO to New Zealand!"

5. Be an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in?

Figure skating. That was always my favorite sport in the Olympics growing up. And, it would mean I was coordinated!

6. What was the best fireworks show you ever saw or experienced?
When visiting my brother in the Tokyo area, he took me to see the fireworks over Yokohama. They lasted for a full hour and were SPECTACULAR!

Here I go!

1. What is your favorite thing to do in the summer? Sleep in a little later than I do the rest of the year (I work in public education so I have summers off), cook more complex meals, weekend road trips.

2. Do you change anything about your workouts in the summer? What? I may work out longer during the week since I'm off work. I also must be done before 10:00 am in order to beat the heat.

3. What is your favorite activity to do on vacation? Anything to do with the beach: swimming snorkeling, reading will laying in the sun (slathered with sunscreen of course).

4. If you could choose only one vacation destination where would you pick and why? Hawaii. Great beaches, not too hot or too humid (typically), low key vibe.

5. Be an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in? Swimming! Distance, not sprint work.

6. What was the best fireworks show you ever saw or experienced? When I was a little girl living in England there was an annual world fireworks competition. Nations would compete for best show. It was hours of elaborate fireworks choreographed to music. AMAZING!

Fun to read everyone's answers--thanks for starting this, Laura!

1. What is your favorite thing to do in the summer? I live in Florida so I stay inside or travel to someplace cooler.

2. Do you change anything about your workouts in the summer? What? I sometimes drink cold water instead of room temp water. Even working out inside, I get hotter in the summer.

3. What is your favorite activity to do on vacation? I like a combination of museums (historical or art) and outdoors (hiking, picnics).

4. If you could choose only one vacation destination where would you pick and why? New Zealand! The Virtual Active cycling dvds made me want to visit!

5. Be an Olympic athlete, what sport would you compete in? Gymnastics.

6. What was the best fireworks show you ever saw or experienced? Waaaay back in college, they had a fireworks show in the stadium the night before the homecoming football game. They were choreographed to music & so close above us in the stadium--awesome!

1. enjoying the nice weather outside
2. not that I've noticed, but if it is really hot or humid, I change the timing of my workouts by working out really early or around dinner. I usually work out in the morning
3. If I am home on vacation, I like to catch up on things at home like cleaning... I know, boring! but I like being at home to do things that I enjoy doing, like my hobbies, working out, etc. or I will spend time with family, including my mom who lives about 20 minutes away from us.

If I am away on vacation in another city, museums, broadway shows, sightseeing are always on the menu.

4. Italy.

5. Gymnastics.

6. Disneyworld's and Disneyland's fireworks show with my kids & DH. runner up: the premier of the film "Pearl Harbor" in Hawaii on location at Pearl Harbor. This was a Disney movie and they launched spectacular fireworks at Pearl Harbor, about a 15 minute drive from our house.

****
commentary:
#4: I've gone walking with several VFers when THEY were on vacation here in Hawaii!
#5: if Videofitness were an Olympic event, I would choose that! Working out was my only foray into being an athlete.
