Reading VF

For a long time after I found VF in late 1998 I would read every single post. There are definitely many more posts now of course, but I am wondering whether anyone still does that. I don't have the time or, quite frankly, the interest in some of the subjects anymore, but I sure used to know my videos back then.

Heavens no! I have a job - and a life. . I only open threads with titles that interest me. I hate thread titles that don't tell me what the thread is about, and I never open those. Titles like 'Question' or 'Has this happened to anyone?'. No time for those.

Even if I had nothing to do but surf the net all day I wouldn't read every.single.thread. Like any other forum, I only read what interests me.

Or "Has anyone ever tried..." and they put the name of workout or instructor X in the post. Why not put it ALL in the title?

I think there is a natural progression of benign neglect.

When you first find a site like this you are so enthralled that there are others JUST LIKE YOU that you read every word, savor many, and just wallow in the knowledge that you are not alone.

Then you start to recognize certain threads and you pick and choose. Oh, this thread is going to turn into a Cathe flame war. Pop the popcorn, turn off the phone and let me get in my sweats! It is guilty pleasure time.

Then you see a thread that talks about TA's questionable business sense/tactics/ethics. Nope, not reading that. I can look at how my brother is running his life if that interested me.

Oh, wait, Zuzana was in porn? Yeah. Been there, done that.

And of course, there are threads about actual workouts, hard to believe but true. Oh, this is another Leslie thread. I me some of Les and the girls. Click and read and just smile, knowing there will be some haters but mostly it is all about the Leslie love.

Oh, wait, this thread is about kettlebells. Hmmm, no, not clicking on that. Can't afford to be tempted by something that will ultimately, just a matter of time, slip from my hand on a TGU, crush my skull and generally ruin my day.

But then there are those surprise threads, you know, the one you ignore until you all of a sudden notice that there are 942 posts and 20,142 viewings and whoopee, there goes three hours of your life you will never get back and now it is time to do anything but work out.

Yeah, I think I know the syndrome, Betsy.

Renda! You were in porn?

I also try not to open OT threads very often, and to reply even less often. Read the VF Guidelines people. OT is 'discouraged.' I hate to encourage OT by replying.

Hey, it started with Renda herself

Wow. Renda was a porn star... you think you cyber-know someone, then BAM! Crazy stuff pops up out of the blue.

I'm with Joni on the OT threads. Not that I really care about an OT thread here or there, but I'm really here to talk about exercise, not someone's cat.

Speaking of, I've been thinking about the disproportionate number of cat lovers on VF. I wonder if video exercisers are more likely to be introverts and if introverts are more likely to be cat people... Of course, I am an introvert but not a cat person, but it's just a thought.

Anyway, I digress. No, I don't read every thread.

Lol! Count me as someone who has done that several times. It seems I'm perfectly ok with ignoring a thread, but once it gets to 27 pages it becomes irresistible.
