Hip/hamstring mobility and flexibility

Looking for some short practices that focus on the hip and hamstring. My flexibility in general is not very good and I am really feeling now as I grow older and carrying my toddler around. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I strained my left hip last year and also developed moderate hip arthritis. Before I went to the doctor, I started doing Mimi Solare's Deep Stretch. I have found her Hip and Hamstring segment to be very effective. My hips and hamstrings were very tight when I first started using this workout. I still use it quite a bit. The segment is 20 min long.

Hi pharmagal! I have super-tight hamstrings and hip flexors and have found these to be especially helpful:

Annette Fletcher, Perfect in 10 Stretch (Hips & Legs segment)
Rodney Yee, Yoga for Energy and Stress Relief
Jane Adams, Gentle Yoga (I do the 29-min Evening Practice almost every day)

I second Mimi Solaire’s Deep Stretch. There are also some good yin yoga practices for hips on YouTube at Yoga by Kassandra. Lots of good, long stretches.

I third Mimi's Deep Stretch - love the leg section!

I just finished doing the leg section again today. I swear by it to keep my hips and hamstrings from being too tight.

AM Yoga for your week from Rodney Yee has a wonderful hip openers segment that's about 22 min.

Travis Eliot has a short yin yoga class that is good. I usually try to do his longer classes. Paul Grilley has an excellent yin yoga dvd. Since I’ve started doing yin yoga regularly my flexibility has increased dramatically. No more lower back pain or sciatica either. Travis and Paul’s yin yoga stretches are deeper and a little more intense than Mimi Solaire’s.

I have Annette Fletcher’s Perfect in 10 Stretch dvd and it’s also one of my favorites.

Here’s a link to Travis Eliot’s 30 minute yin yoga:

My right hip gets wonky, probably b/c my left leg is shorter. I find that the Lower Back practice from Total Body Solution (Debbie Seibers) has several moves that feel great on the hips; it's about 15 minutes.

If you like Yin Yoga, I highly recommend Yoga Ranger (Aprille Walker) on YouTube. She has a whole series of short videos called "Yin Yoga Snacks" (10-20 minutes). She focuses on a variety of areas of the body, definitely including the hips and hamstrings.
