How do you pronounce Weider?
As in Joe Weider fitness products?
Is it wider? Is it weeder? Sher |
It's Weeder

OK, so it's really late and maybe I'm punchy, but I can't help thinking, "where's Joan?" Wiener is usually pronounced weener, not winer, right? :)
(Yes, I know the question was wieder, but at 1:15 am, it looks a lot like wiener). |
I think it's spelled wEIder, making it wider, if it's pronounced at all like German.
e before i makes a sound kind of like a long i, and i before e makes a sound like a long e sound. Though if the name's been Americanized all bets are off - and I've never heard the name being said as in Joe Weider. |
It should sound like wider, but they call it weeder.
|
It's definitely WEE-der.

I agree with Lissa and Helen -- I'm pretty sure it's "Weeder," but the authentic German pronounciation would be "Wider" (well, technically, "Vider" ;) ).
|
Based on almost nothing, I somehow thought it was pronounced "VEE-der." :D
|
Musically speaking...
Weeder, wider,
Veeder, vider, Let's call the whole thing off. LOL, I'm silly today! :D |
LOL Martha
Duh, it is Weider, isn't it? I have heard people talk about him (like Cory Everson) and they pronounced it Weeder.
