This DVD is Cathe’s first “greatest hits” DVD. It contains only step footage, with some bonus circuit work thrown in for good measure. The workout contains one main workout, clocking in at about 65 minutes, and 6 premixes which range from 45 to 61 minutes.

Let me start out by saying that Cathe is my one of my favorite instructors. For years, I only worked out to Cathe — in fact, I have every workout she put out up through Shock Cardio, plus a few of her later ones. I love love love her steady state step, and her interval step is pretty darn good too. So when I heard that she was putting out a greatest hits step DVD, I thought it was going to be fabulous!

And it is… sort of. The positives: she’s got some great combos on there; the length is good —50-60 minutes is about right for those days where I want a long workout but not overkill; the music is motivating; and much of the material comes from the era where Cathe was so happy! Also, I don’t think the choreography is super complex and her cuing is good. (FYI, I didn’t do the circuit premixes with weights, so I can’t comment on those.)

However, honestly, I don’t think I’ll do this one much. While I enjoyed the workout overall, it had an unbalanced feeling to me. It was mostly comprised of SJP and IMAX2, with a small number of segments from other DVDs thrown in. Cathe has such a lovely catalogue of step workouts; she could have really made this great. The lack of variety is a little baffling. Also, this is just personal preference, but I think the main workout would have worked better if it were all steady state or all intervals. By the second IMAX2 segment, I just wanted it to be over!

On the other hand, it IS Cathe. So I think I’ll keep it. :)
