Comments about Kathy: Good cueing and very motivating. I like her style, how she shows the stretch and points out that not everybody will be able to stretch as far, that it will come with time.
Its athletic stretching which I like because I am not ready to try yoga. The first active stretching segment is done standing up. You need a chair. It stretchs inner thigh, calf (very good), quads, side laterals, hamstrings and neck. There are also two balancing moves, very different from anything I have seen before. In this section you hold the stretches for about 10 sec each
Part 2 You hold the stretches longer, about 20 sec, and most of them are seated. The muscles worked are the same, but the chest and tricepts are added.
Part 3 PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) which means you stretch a little, contract the muscle and stretch more. Work calves, hamstrings, outerthigh, innerthigh, chest, neck and trapezius (sp?). I love the neck/trapezius stretch very much, it just feels sooo good.
I find this to be a very relaxing tape. The music is mellow and soothing and modifcations are always shown for the less flexible. I feel it was a good value, too, $7.00 at the Reebok outlet store (I bought legs and abs also) and feel that even at the $9.95 it retails for it would be a good deal.
The only complaint I have is that the upper body is not stretched more since I do a lot of upper body work.
This stretch video is part of Reeboks versa training series. The tape is broken up into a warm-up, and three levels of stretch. The tape is not very complex and I think I could use something a little more challenging. This would be a nice tape for beginners since it consists of basic stretching. The first segment deals with standing stretches for you hamstrings, quads and easy balance poses. The second segment is on the floor and the stretches are held for a little longer. The final segment is also on the floor and uses resistence to complete the stretch.
Kathy Stevens gives clear, easy to follow instructions and nice alternatives if you can't perform a particular movement. The other two people in the video show modifications.
This video starts with a short effective warm-up,(as effective as 3 minutes can be) folled by 3 stretching segments. You need a chair and a towel to execute them. The first 2 segments are traditional stretches and the last one is composed of "contract/release" stretches. You can do the video one segment at a time or all of it if you want.
This is the only stretching video I own and I like it. The stretches feel good and Kathy gives modification options which Terrence demonstrate.
The video doesn't contain any new revelations but I find it effective. The music is very relaxing. I recommend this video.
When giving pointers, she gives the impression that she's talking to children. It's a little annoying. But I got over it.
